Bonus WIP: Rivets. I modelled this helmet after the Benvie stone as well as Anglo-Saxon helmet finds in Wollaston and Coppergate (minus the cheek guards). #Earlymedieval #Blender #Pictish #miniaturedesign

You didn't get a #WIP on Wednesday so you're getting it on Thursday. Mainly the cloth details and shoes are on the to do list for swordsman #1, so I'm going to put him to the side for the time being and take care of the other 3. #miniaturedesign #historicalwargaming #blender #earlymedieval

Pictish art includes many figures with decorated tunic hems, though trying to replicate this while keeping it within the realm of actually paintable detail isn't the easiest. I'll definitely need to check the test prints to see if it is too small to paint. #earlymedieval #blender #miniaturedesign

Another set of extras, this time its decorated #pictish shields, some of these are taken from the few examples on Pictish stonework, but others are based on Pictish art in general. You can find them here: www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-pr... #earlymedieval #3dprinting #historicalminiatures

A characteristic of GB minis (unusual at the time) was that they were open-handed to receive separately cast weapons - a variety of period-specific swords, spears and axes . #miniatures #wargaming #grippingbeast #nerdlings #spreadthelard

I'm willing to admit that I have been quite obsessive with my attention to detail, after all nitpicking other Pictish miniatures was part of why I decided to make my own.😅

I recall seeing something about a re-enactor making a reproduction of a Pictish riding shoe with tongues on the back and front. Unless you're super anal about accuracy I'd say the legs are fine, maybe excluding the ones with leg wraps.

MMF has introduced different currency options, so now all my minis are listed in proper British pounds, not these newfangled American "dollars" (Terrible name, I would have called them alloas). This has also come with a slight price increase.

I have a feeling the Pictish swordsmen are going to be a bit more trial and error with the posing, I think their status demands something a bit more dynamic. #Pictish #Blender #Earlymedieval

Back at #WIPWednesday with more heads! With all the variations of helmets available I figured I could instead to two sets of helmeted heads, one covering the 6th-9th centuries and the other covering the 9th-12th centuries. Here is some of the latter.
4 3d modelled heads with helmets from the 9th to 12th centuries, including several Norman style single piece conical helmets.

After doing many historical minis, labouring over trying to make sure things are as accurate as my knowledge allows, it feels good to work on something fantasy, where I can justify design choices as "I think it looks cool".

I think the deal is that the Warrior Ethos™ alone doesn't get you very far, and throughout history many generals have screwed up massively by thinking their soldiers being the toughest around makes up for a lack of proper planning.

I thought I'd test out using brass rods and by my great genius (total coincidence) that 1.5 mm brass rods perfectly fit into the hands of my Pictish longspearmen. So I'll definitely get around to making individual spearhead variations of the spears I already released.
