If you have to DNF for any reason, you do that. Some books may seem innocent at first and then trigger you, so if you gotta put it down, then drop it like it's hot. Me, personally, as an author applaud you for ever even picking it up and giving it a go.

Children can be cruel. Ofc, they should be raised to be accepting & welcoming of others but that doesn't always happen as it should...I'm sorry you had this experience.
