I’ve had to watch that unfold, knowing where it is going, for far too many friends. It sucks, but we can’t make them see it, they have to do it for themselves and the best we can do is be there to catch them when the shit hits the fan. Well, and maybe help resource them psychologically before too.

This is one of the reasons why my wife helps me become a bigger and more enriched person. She gets angry on my behalf when I struggle to bring that same energy for myself, and it has taught me to see more when I should be upset about being treated badly. It’s a long road to healing 🫂

Just annoys me to see people talk about a field I have worked in and get it so damn wrong. Restorative justice doesn’t mean every perpetrator of violence or harm gets to be forgiven and go on with life as if it never happened. It is not automatic and must give agency to victims and community.

Some things people don’t seem to get about restorative justice: 1) it places power back in the hands of the victim and they have a choice to not forgive. 2) the harm and breach in trust with society must also be addressed and healed, and the perpetrator must repair with the community too.
