I'm seeing people trickling into @intend.do via this room! I'm not on bsky much these days but don't hesitate to reach out if I can support the room (as creator/maintainer of intend). eg a bot or something that autoposts to bsky when someone joins the room? idk!

would be cool if linked tweets from twitter got displayed more like quote-tweets, without the giant useless X

Sometime people ask me if I'm joking or serious, or kind of 50/50. I like to aim for simultaneously being mostly-joking and mostly-serious.

what we need is some AI system that just takes a recorded talk and converts it into a full draft of a paper, with notes on sections that need revising or missing citations

coming back to bsky after a year and there still aren't hotkeys? at least... n doesn't open [new tweet] and ? doesn't show an alternate list of hotkeys ..........

hmm okay no request and it also didn't preview anything testing a fuller url... ah! it doesn't do frontend <meta> tag fetching now. that's an improvement since last year intend.do/intentionality

using bluesky to test CORS for intend.do

Malcolm Ocean @malcolmocean.com · 14/08/2023
also this is in some importance sense a definition of a "tweet". A twitter is an app that has/emphasizes tweets. By this take, bluesky is slightly more of a twitter atm than twitter.com is, because the latter allows super long posts, which don't compose like tweets do.

Hugely in favor of this. Specifically what makes something a twitter afaict is that each utterance is a standalone object that can be amplified & quoted. So anything where comments/replies are stuck to top-level posts is not a twitter.

This is the way because it actually contributes to the decorporitization of language and turns "tweet" into a genericized word, which is an intrinsic linguistic good

absolutely. offensive overreach. I have a giant thread on twitter that I call "activism" which is just full of me correcting the spellcheck repeatedly and saying '"X" is a word' for each neologism or novel conjugatory experiment

wow yeah, hard to do curls!

so now that twitter is calling itself "X" and its utterances "posts" & "reposts"...... ............can we use "tweet" & "retweet" here? (real question. probably they could still sue, but how hard would it be to prod Elon into insisting those words are stupid and giving others permission...? 🤔)

just created a bsky for my app, which has a new name/domain as of today too celebrated by re-posting this manifesto (that I actually drafted in gdocs but the cadence was already perfect for a thread)

I've existed since 2013 but I have a new name now, just in time for my old name to never have an account on bluesky! Check out the story of why @malcolmocean.com renamed Complice to Intend:

I hope you're going to make sure that there's at least a type of utterance that is not editable, because that's really important for preserving the sense of playfulness as far as I can tell. it makes it way more improvisational & spontaneous to have it be just "out there now", un-perfect-able

singular "they" has existed for a long time but (at least in my dialect) was canonically only used for people whose names/identifies don't matter for the conversation ✅ "I asked cashier, they said X" ❌ "I asked Alicia, they said X" the 2nd one would make my grandparents go "what? they who?"

sometimes the blind people touching the elephant are at each others' throats sometimes a sighted person comes along & laughs & explains what's going on sometimes the sighted person assumes that just because they see the WHOLE elephant at once, THEY can see the elephant FULLY 🤦‍♀️🐘

it's hard to be fully expressive around other people because unless you've built up a lot of trust, fully vocalizing your frustration will produce an excess of concern from them that'll be difficult to dispel

most communication problems amount to being unable to reliably say AND mean AND have received/trusted: 1. "I need something" 2. "I'm fine (and I'd let you know if I needed something)" [something], eg:  space  help  to pee/drink/eat  to slow down  to understand  to be understood

Dream Mashups - Malcolm Ocean
This article is an elaboration on this tweet: Everyone is basically living in a dream mashup of their current external situation and whatever old emotional meanings are getting activated by the current situation. Like dreaming you’re at your high school but it’s also on a boat somehow. What makes this metaphor really powerful is that, […]

Instead, we have the impression that we are simply being irrational and should snap out of it. These are deep confusions; waking up from them *ongoingly* requires a thorough reorganization of our thinking, not just a jolt into presence (which may help for a moment).
