Mac wore a mesh tank top and now I can't stop drawing him in it.

Dennis is probably saying mean as fuck things to him about his sexuality, but Dennis is just mad because Mac looks like THAT and he's supposed to keep his hands off him.

the scene with Mac in the tank top talking about how he can pull hot women too, while Dennis's face is still stained in smudged mascara because the day's events frustrated him so bad he cried... what if there was catharsis for that scene.

I also drew CharFrank because of ship indoctrination. props to the friends who will propagandize a ship at a high skill level.

the concept is from Flowers for Charlie. in that episode, Charlie's taking pills to make him smarter, and while he's taking a placebo the whole time, he actually thinks he's more intelligent and is being kind of an ass about it. and Frank genuinely thinks that Charlie is getting smarter and leaving him behind. simple solution: fuck him stupid. no thoughts left at all.

more MacDen... I've drawn a lot of them.

specifically inspired by The Gang Group Dates where Dennis is talking about his rescue dog (Mac) which doesn't exist (unless you count Mac) and talking about how, when he cuddles up next to him on the couch, it's almost like the dog (Mac) saved him.

in my mind, there's a direct pathway from that moment to the part in The Gang Dines Out, where Dennis gets on the mic and talks about how he only has the courage to do anything he does because Mac is always gonna be there for him, so he doesn't have to be afraid. and then serenades him with "did you ever know that you're my hero? cus you are the wind beneath my wings"

and maybe it's a coincidence that Dennis also said he was gonna take Mac and Charlie under his wing in the dating episode, to show them how to date women, but like... Mac's been there the whole time, and also, Dennis sucks ass at dating women in that episode (maybe in general if we're really going there) and Mac doesn't like women or want to date them at all...

AND DENNIS BOUGHT A LEASH FOR THE DOG HE DOESN'T HAVE. EXCEPT HE DOES.

the leash is for Mac.

been sitting on some art lately... might start unleashing it (haha) on here again someday. for now, here's something really rough.

Charlie is the kind of dog who needs his owner to apply flea and tick medication to his scalp. Mac is the kind of dog that was never trained on the meaning of sit/stay/heel/down boy/etc.

I also love the idea that Dennis thinks Charlie's fleas are disgusting, and Frank thinks MacDen PDA is disgusting. they're both judgmental...

I've been trying to teach myself how to color things properly and used this drawing I already had as a kind of test run. I still feel hamstrung in a lot of areas, but I can do it...

this just took way too long... I feel like maybe I'm not starting the process correctly. I don't know how to do that thing where people just pick a couple colors and quickly add sensible looking basic shadows to a sketch... everything's gotta take exactly one billion years. it'd help if I wasn't still doing this on my phone.

I want... selection tool... so bad.

see, the difference between my love of Dennis and my love of Mac, is that I wanna bully the shit out of Dennis, and I am a borderline Mac apologist. not really... he has done shit that is cringe and wrong, and half the stuff out of his mouth is incorrect and said with a conviction that is always worrisome... but he's Mac. could I really be mad at Mac?

and then Charlie is innocent. frequently misguided, but I sense zero darkness in his heart.

also "I do backflips every day of my life" is such a funny quote, I've heard it before, and it's stuck in my mind. it might not be the most iconic iasip meme, but it's special to me.

idk, I just have this crazy urge to bully Dennis. I wanna bully him all the time, so bad, but it's because I love him, and if anyone else ever tried to truly hate him, then it's like no... not precious Dennis. but he's also wretched. but it also makes him unreasonably cute.

the cascading psychological issues are the best part, they make me wanna wrap him in a blanket but also squish him like a bug. but nobody hurt him.

this is just a really interesting exchange in terms of their various hypocrisies and contradictory behaviors...

like earlier Mac was talking about how the people at the public pool were gross, while trying to get into a swim club, which thinks he's gross, and getting offended that they excluded him. and now he's trying to convince Dennis to consider himself the same social class as Mac for logical reasons, such as "we live in the same apartment" but that'd lower Dennis's perceived class, so he's not buying it. and Mac is also putting on this stupid chain so he can speak to Frank "as an equal" but Frank isn't interested because he can smell the desperation coming off of them. plus, he opted out of class categorization. he firmly doesn't give a shit. ironically because he's got enough money that he doesn't have to worry one way or another.

Dennis: "you're born into class, it's about pedigree, it's about upbringing, it has nothing to do with your present circumstances."

this is also fascinating. there's this kind of wounded dignity about the twins, where they cling to status symbols, like wealth, what they wear, who they're dating, and other class indications, because they've been told of the value it holds. but they don't exactly reap any personal benefits from it most of the time. they put in enormous amounts of effort to parade around looking the part, but it betrays them more often than it pays out.

Dee: "see, Dennis and I were born upper class. therefore we are, and will forever remain, upper class."

oh Deandra, who told you that? who told you that class is a costume, and you can prove you deserve it if you just wear it well enough?

it's also really interesting that the twins both know that class can be a thing completely separate from money, and yet they can't figure out why they're unqualified. literally they're clawing at the door like they really belong inside, but they're not house cats, they're a couple of raccoons with delusions of grandeur.

oooooh shit, Cricket is back.

the fact that these two have great natural banter right up until they sit down to record it on purpose also feels a little like meta commentary on the show. like, good natural banter takes a lot of scenario being built... charisma does not exist in a vacuum.

the running gag with Cricket is absolutely diabolical, and features in at least one other show that I can think of, which also utilizes it very well. you really can't go wrong with a guy who always gets worse every time you see him. always a winner.
