Recently, the remaining Nauru Airlines aircraft available for commercial flights left dozens of people (incl Aust government contractors) stranded in Nauru for days while it took a bunch of Nauruan VIPs for a holiday in Vietnam for a 21st birthday party. I kid you not. Who paid for that? You did.

Someone (ie you) is paying for the offshore immigration contractors being delayed, diverted daily as a result of Nauru Airlines failures. Home Affairs has so far refused to answer basic questions about contingencies & cost overruns. DFAT also refusing to answer qs about its Nauru Airlines contracts.

Sputum and oral microbiota profiles are associated with long COVID severity and phenotype post-hospitalisation: a UK multicentre, prospective cohort study
BackgroundAcute COVID-19 alters the airway microbiota. Whether these changes persist post-COVID-19 and contribute to long COVID is unknown. We aimed to describe the microbiota by long COVID severity and subtype, and identify links with inflammation.MethodsAdults were prospectively recruited to the longitudinal UK Post-hospitalisation COVID-19 study (PHOSP-COVID). Patients were grouped by previously described “severity clusters” (of ongoing health impairments) and symptom subgroups. Oral and sputum microbiota (at 6 months post-discharge) were characterised through 16S ribosomal RNA gene amplicon sequencing, and microbiota diversity was assessed. Co-occurrence network analysis identified keystone taxa. Associations between keystone taxa and plasma inflammatory proteins were assessed through Spearman's rank correlations.Results771 participants had their microbiota assessed. Of participants with oral rinses and “severity cluster” assignment (mean age 57.5 years), 278 out of 722 (38.5%) were women. The “very severe” cluster, in which disease was predominantly pulmonary in nature, was associated with a distinct microbiota profile post-COVID-19. Reduced lung function was associated with a distinct oral microbiota profile. Persistent neurocognitive symptoms were associated with a distinct oral microbiota profile, while gastrointestinal symptoms were associated with a distinct sputum microbiota profile. Microbiota keystone taxa shifted to a higher prevalence of lactic acid bacteria associated with worse health outcomes. Lactic acid bacteria abundance was associated with elevated blood inflammatory proteins.ConclusionDistinct oral and sputum microbiota profiles were associated with pulmonary function and with neurocognitive and gastrointestinal symptoms in long COVID. Shifts in keystone microbiota taxa linked with inflammation, based on worse health outcomes, suggest a potential role change for lactic acid bacteria, which may be associated with the host immune response.

A study of 771 people hospitalised with COVID found those with severe Long COVID had altered mouth and airway bacteria, linked to brain fog, lung and gut problems. It's unclear if changes came before or after infection. Earlier research (2023) found COVID can reduce oral microbiome diversity.

Guilfoyle's exit before any inquiry reaches a finding removes her from the State Department's disciplinary system, which applies only to serving employees, and leaves the remaining routes to a criminal case in the hands of officials Trump appointed or can overrule. The department's inspector general can subpoena documents but cannot compel a former official to testify. Trump fired the State Department's inspector general, Cardell Richardson, and at least 16 others on 24 January 2025. A federal judge ruled on 24 September 2025 that the firings broke the law but declined to reinstate them.
Justice Department leaders chosen by Trump would decide any prosecution over the Deters request, the Aktor flights or payments to foreign officials. The department's Public Integrity Section, which prosecutes corruption by federal officials, was cut from about 35 lawyers to four or five in 2025, according to two former members. A 10 February 2025 executive order paused new enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which bars US companies and citizens from bribing foreign officials. Emil Bove, then acting deputy attorney general, ordered prosecutors in February 2025 to drop corruption charges against Eric Adams, then mayor of New York; a federal judge dismissed the case in April 2025.

Between October 8 and October 11, 2026, Ukrainian forces conducted an unprecedented campaign targeting the physical infrastructure of Russian internet giant Yandex, frequently called "Russia's Google". This infographic marks the precise timeline and impact metrics of the three facilities targeted out of Yandex's largest network sites:

• 2. Yandex Vladimir (Energetik): Marked with a red "X," this ~63 MW facility was targeted on October 11, 2026. Yandex subsequently announced that all operations at this data center were completely suspended.

• 3. Yandex Sasovo (Ryazan region): Marked with a red "X," this hub was struck overnight on October 8, 2026, sparking a fire and causing a total shutdown. This facility is particularly critical as it houses two of Yandex's three supercomputers used to train artificial intelligence models.
