"and what I want to happen most of all in my crazy heart. Whom should I persuade (now again) to lead you back into her love? Who, O Sappho, is wronging you?" Anne Carson's translation of Sappho fr. 1

Catullus 101, trans. Anne Carson: Many the peoples many the oceans I crossed -- I arrive at these poor, brother, burials so I could give you the last gift owed to death and talk (why?) with mute ash. .... accept! Soaked with tears of a brother and into forever, brother, farewell and farewell.

Got our flu shots yesterday. Sanofi's Flu Blok. Shingrix is a tough one, but not as tough as shingles, I hear. Highly recommend Nuvaxovid, also called Novavax, also (I learned today) called Sanofi-Pasteur. Why do they make everything convoluted?! Novavax has more robust protection, fewer symptoms.

I also wonder if these oddballs would be game for making a second one of these where an eagle is gnawing on "Prometheus"'s liver

& maybe if ppl aren’t willing to follow the science they should shush up about what ppl are wearing. We could have masked hours at pharmacies and grocery stores and museums, and DOCTOR’S OFFICES. But we do not.

Ppl should ask themselves if they want more virus or less virus and then let that answer guide them to be quiet about maskers or keep being obtuse.

American Classical League just launched a great new public humanities initiative: "What is Your Odyssey?" Up first is Rachel Hadas with a poem ("Nostos") and a reflection.

-Are you not the author of the 3048 chapter Greek grammar that has become the standard reference, who taught at Johns Hopkins, Bryn Mawr, Harvard and the American Classical School at Athens? -Sir, I believe that you are referring to Herbert Weir Smyth...and he was also the president of the APA.

Sadly, the project I finished last night super late was not the project I was actually supposed to be working on, so I have all of the exhaustion and none of the triumphant break. #MagistraWentBackToSchool #YearSevenStartsNow

This I did not know. English adjectives almost always follow this order... by Jono Hey of @sketchplanations.bsky.social sketchplanations.com/ordering-adj...

ALT text: A comic-style illustration explaining the order of English adjectives using the example "A terrific giant old circular gray Scottish stone throwing toy." Categories listed are opinion, size, age, shape, color, origin, material, and purpose. Below, stick figures are depicted in a landscape with hills, with one figure excitedly reacting to a flying object.

Turns out it is super simple to disable the AI in Adobe reader! Guidelines in the alt-text if you want narrative. #3BsInBlueberry

Adobe PDF document with very annoying AI features that no one should want: "Ask AI Assistant" and "View summary" buttons on the top and "Summarize" button on the bottom. "Save time with a document summary" offers a blue bar at the top. Puke.

Click the three dots to the right of the printer icon at the top of the window. Select "Preferences" from the drop-down menu.

Click on "Generative AI" on the left and deselect the two generative AI options.

That's it! You're free and clear! Abolish AI and reinstate human voices.

On a different note, bodies are so weird. I'll never get over the fact that when I feel weak, potato chips help. What even is this & how did I get lucky in this particular way? (Growing up w/diabetic dad, I always assumed it was sugar I needed at such times, but no. Tastes nice, but doesn't help!)

Are you KIDDING me MS Word? I decided to dictate quotes from the book I'm working on and it censored 'pissed'? REALLY?

Passage from Josephine Angelini's novel Dreamless:

The whole thing ****** her off. This beautiful structure was nothing more than a prison to trap a young woman who had been stolen from her home and then tricked into a detestable marriage.
