This reminds me of something Toni Morrison wrote.

You know, they straightened out the Mississippi River in places, to make room for houses and livable acreage. Occasionally the river floods these places. "Floods" is the word they use, but in fact it is not flooding; it is remembering. Remembering where it used to be. All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was.

It takes more effort than it used to, to turn the pegs, but Mr. Heidelberg’s ghostly fingers still manage to help tune all the pianos at the Neubert Community Music School. Those keys take a pounding every day, and the new piano tuner could use all the help she can get.

Going to try to approach my writing this year like a botanical garden. A protected space, with different biomes in different wings. Finding the right soil pH for whatever a project needs, cultivating seedlings, just tending to a part of myself in a really intentional way.
