A previously unknown (to me) Michael Powell film called The Phantom Light (1935). One actor in it rejoiced in the name of Fewlass Llewellyn. Set in Wales, mainly in a lighthouse, it starts at Tan y Bwlch railway station, where the station mistress wears Welsh costume, including the hat! #WalesFilm

I came across a TV show called M Squad (1959), starring Lee Marvin as a police captain trying to catch arsonists in Chicago. The guest actors were James Coburn and Leonard Nimoy, as the arsonists. #YouTube

I always liked Joan Greenwood. Way back in the 1990s, I used to go for manicures at a salon near Oxford St (London) run by an actress. Joan Greenwood was a client, and one day, I found myself having a manicure next to her. She was charming...that voice!

There's an interesting book out called "one star away"; true story I read it quite a few years ago, but it touches on the Polish evacuation into Siberia and the children that were then moved into Iran and India and how beautiful that assistance was

I quit smoking the easiest way. I simply read Allen Carr's book and, after decades of smoking— and trying everything from nicotine gum to hypnotism—since I finished the book over 20 years, I've never even THOUGHT about smoking again.

‼️To destroy the hundreds of Russian drones that attack Ukraine almost every night, Ukraine’s air defense uses every possible method. For example, Soviet, propeller-driven aircraft such as the Yak-52 are used - they are cheaper than the drones themselves.

I just saw a post at the other place about 2 competing women's college volleyball teams in Canada. One team had 2 men playing, and the other had 3 men, ergo there were 5 men on the court and 7 biological women.

Keaton filmed not far from my home for the 2017 film, Hampstead. Sadly, it was a poor film; Jason Watkins (top actor) was the best thing in it. One day, I was at the bus stop outside Hampstead Waterstones, and I thought, "That woman is so like Diane Keaton!" It was her.

Limited liability is one of our weird silences. It's a massive free gift society makes to plutocrats, seldom remarked upon, let alone contested. Shareholders should have to buy limited liability, like any other insurance. The insurers would then be liable. 🧵 www.theguardian.com/news/ng-inte...

I've just watched an Alun Richards play on YouTube, Under the Carpet (1970). A possessive aunt tries to poison her nephew's wife with slug killer. Some good lines: "She's a woman of the world, her husband's with the Gas Board" "If I left a piece of fly paper, it would be too good for her"
