Being chronically ill is crazy because it never stops. As soon as one problem starts improving, another one shows up. Most of the time, they don't even wait their turn.

Top Title Text: Large, black, handwritten-style font centered at the top reads: "When you finally get a diagnosis and go back to the doctor that said 'it's all in your head'..."

Visual: Below the text is a still image from a television show featuring a man sitting at a wooden desk in a dimly lit room. He is illuminated primarily by a single desk lamp to his left. He has his hands clasped together on the table in front of him and is making a highly intense, angry, and vindictive facial expression, staring directly forward with narrowed eyes and bared teeth.

Bottom Right Text: A small, white watermark in handwritten font along the bottom right edge of the photo reads: "@chronically_inspiring"

four-panel webcomic featuring a cute pink blob character illustrating the frustration of invisible illness.

Panel 1: The pink blob is perfectly fitted into a rigid square frame, smiling happily. Text below reads: "My Health Issues Have Become My Entire Life. I Don't Talk About This Much."

Panel 2: The top of the frame opens up like a lid, and the pink blob happily spills out, morphing into a soft, irregular shape while still smiling. Text below reads: "Friends & Family Will Only See Me On My Best Days. So They Might Think I’m Okay."

Panel 3: A hand reaches in from the right and aggressively punches the pink blob in the face, causing it to cry in distress. The fist has text next to it that reads: "YOU DON'T SEEM SICK!"

Panel 4: The pink blob is forced back into its rigid square frame, smiling politely once again. Text below reads: "PEOPLE SUCK!"

The URL "MyBodyIsTryingToKillMe.com" is printed in the bottom left corner.

sparrow/liz (semi-hiatus) - chronically ill people trying to access treatment or a diagnosis should not have to learn the exact right words to unlock actual medical care instead of dismissal or fat-shaming

Me: up, up, down, down, left, right, B, A

Dr: ok you're right we should run the test

----

@hoakwrites - and 'the exact words' often includes playing dumb so your doctor won't be offended as u gently lead them to the treatment you've researched/know more about than they do #spoonieproblems #rarediseaseprobelms

The average person makes
thousands of decisions a day.
When you’re chronically ill,
most of them aren’t big life
choices. For me, it's asking
this question over and over
again: "Is this worth a flare
later?”

"SHE'S A LOT"
YOU'RE RIGHT, I AM A LOT

A LOT OF PAIN I DIDN'T CHOOSE.
A LOT OF DAYS THAT FEEL IMPOSSIBLE.
A LOT OF WAITING ON MEDS, ON RELIEF, ON ANSWERS.
A LOT OF ADAPTING, ADJUSTING, AND ACCEPTING.
A LOT OF SYMPTOMS, FLARES, AND FEAR.
A LOT OF APPOINTMENTS WITH NO CLEAR ANSWERS.
A LOT OF EXHAUSTION THAT SLEEP DOESN'T FIX.
A LOT OF PRETENDING I'M OKAY.

CALL ME "A LOT," AND I'LL CALL IT THE REALITY OF
LIVING WITH CHRONIC ILLNESS.

thoradvice on tumblr - you don't have to be glad that it's not worse. that goes for everything. disability, trauma, mental illness, grades, finances, whatever. you're /allowed/ to be upset that things are the way they are. you don't have to be grateful for your situation - bad is bad. somebody else's suffering doesn't make yours less painful. it's okay to be angry

If you tell someone over and over again that you have cognitive issues and you're too sick to talk, read, or reply to something for very long, they should believe you. People who don't suffer from cognitive issues from severe fatigue don't seem to understand that.

Being disabled and chronically ill is traumatic. We’re gaslit by doctors, pushed aside by society, some loved ones don’t believe us, our planned futures disappeared, and we’re experiencing our bodies attack themselves. We always feel sick, and we’re in pain. It’s traumatizing.

Panel 1: A person stands holding a "like" heart icon and says, "I Love You!" A large crowd of people is shown running toward them, also carrying heart icons.

Panel 2: The person holds a gas can and says, "I Need Gas!" The crowd following them is noticeably smaller and further away.

Panel 3: The person stands with empty hands and says, "I Need the Money!" Only a few scattered individuals remain in the background, walking away.

Panel 4: The person is collapsed on the ground, coughing or in pain, and says, "Im Sick!" One person is seen running away in the opposite direction, while a large crowd is shown in the distance, also moving away from the person on the ground.

Therapist confession 😫

Chronic illness patients get told their pain is psychosomatic. Then develop actual mental health issues from years of medical gaslighting. The system created what it accused them of having.

You ever know that there's something wrong with your health and you keep going back to the doctor with the same issues over and over and eventually, months, years or decades later, you find a doctor who listens and it turns out you were completely right and now you're just stuck wondering why it had to get this bad before someone listened, why it took so long to get answers and how your health could be right now if you were just listened to in the first place

The chart features two bars:

WHAT I CAN PHYSICALLY DO: A very short, small purple bar that barely sits above the x-axis.

jennampixel - One of the worst things about chronic illness is that noone, often even those close to you, can get their head around the idea that your disability is dynamic and just because you were doing something earlier does not mean you are lying or being lazy when you are saying you don't feel well enough to do it now

I can't always be positive. sorry.

When you tell a chronically ill or
disabled person to “be positive,”
it’s not for them, it’s to make you
feel more comfortable. It asks
them to soften their reality so you
don’t have to sit with it. But
honesty isn’t negativity, and “this
sucks” isn’t something that needs
fixing. Sometimes the kindest
thing you can do is just let people
be real.

Hey, if you're disabled and you use your phone an absolutely obscene amount of hours a day because it's the only thing you can do within your energy budget and it's the one way you can interact with the world. I see you. Don't be embarrassed about that. It's okay. You're allowed to be addicted to your phone. Especially if that phone is the only thing keeping you from absolutely losing your mind while you're stuck at home or in bed.

5 CHRONIC ILLNESS FACTS

Below the title, five rounded purple text bubbles contain the following statements:

Speaking about our chronic illnesses online doesn't make us attention seekers

Just because we’re having a day out, it doesn’t mean we are symptom-free

No one fully understands chronic illness unless they get one themselves

We don’t want to be told that we can do anything if we put our minds into it, sometimes we want to know that what we are doing is enough

We often feel guilty for resting
