Video of Mark Carney denouncing Israel for illegally invading Lebanon.

Anton’s caption reads: I consider Canada to be Australia's colonial sibling, closer than the US in many ways. Look at the clarity with which Carney speaks - first in ruling out Canada's support for the war in Iran, now condemning out loud Israel's invasion of Lebanon. These are positions Albanese can take, yet he chooses not to. He is an outlier, even among Australia's closest allies, in his absurd support for Trump and Israel.

How Minnesota at minimum doesn’t meet level 2 criteria of travel advice levels… I have no clue. Surely state sanctioned violence by ICE, targeting especially non citizens, requires some level of warning for citizens from other countries? Would this be level 1 for any other country? 2/2 #AusPol
Screenshot of level 2 advice from smart traveller website, plus highlights and annotations from me. My annotations will be in brackets.

Level 2: Exercise a high degree of caution
Pay close attention to your personal security and the current health situation.
Monitor the media for new and existing risks.

At level 2, there are more or higher risks than what you would typically find in a large Australian city. We're not saying 'don't go' to this location. But you should do your research and take extra precautions.

The level may reflect a weak law-and-order system, where violent crime is common (by the state).
The destination may lack some key public services, such as a responsive police force.

In some cases, there may be a risk that the security environment could change with little warning. This level may also reflect a passing event, such as political unrest or a short-term increase in a location's domestic terrorism level.

If you travel to a location with an advice level of 2, it's your responsibility to follow all the advice for level 1, as well as the following.
Before you go
• Understand the basics of the political and security situation.
• Familiarise yourself with the destination, including:
• any dangerous areas of a city
• types of crimes
• risky modes of transport (aka cars)
• specific precautions for women or LGBTQIA+ (and anyone who is not white) travellers
• any behaviour that may offend or break the law. (including the "laws" ICE & the government make up that are subject to change at any time. Or anyone who looks at ICE wrong).
• Check your travel insurance policy and coverage, particularly if there is a travel disruption or a change in travel advice.
• Research the health situation and services available for your destination.

While you're away
• Stay in contact with your airline operator or travel provider for changes and updates.
• Be aware of religious holidays or days of national significance. Terrorists have launched attacks on these occasions…Travel advice explained page of the website, with a graph showing level 1 green, level 2 yellow, level 3 orange and level 4 red options.

So when is the Australian government going to update their smart traveller advice levels for the US, and more specifically for areas like Minnesota? The page mentions nothing about ICE in any states, let alone Minnesota. Is diplomatic fragility being prioritised over safety of Aussies? #AusPol

United States of America
Overall: Exercise normal safety precautions
Latest update
Still current at: 24 January 2026
Updated: 19 November 2025

Latest update:
Avoid areas where demonstrations and protests are occurring due to the potential for unrest and violence. Monitor media for updates and follow instructions of local authorities.
Entry requirements are strict. US authorities have broad powers to decide if you're eligible to enter and may determine that you are inadmissible for any reason under US law. Check US entry, registration, transit and exit requirements. Whether you're travelling on a visa or under the Visa Waiver Program, ensure you understand all relevant terms and conditions before attempting to enter the United States.

We advise:

Further information on thunderstorm asthma from the Melbourne Pollen app. #VicFires
Thunderstorm Asthma
Epidemic thunderstorm asthma risk is based on a forecast coincidence of environmental conditions that increase the risk of an event. These include an uncommon type of thunderstorm, high grass pollen levels and other risk factors.
LOW (green)
The conditions necessary for an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event are not expected.
Moderate (orange)
One of the conditions necessary for an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event may be present.
High (red)
There is more than one of the conditions necessary for an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event.Thunderstorm asthma risk

What is thunderstorm asthma?
Thunderstorm asthma is the name given to a sudden increase in allergic asthma in the community linked to thunderstorm activity during periods of elevated grass pollen or other allergens. The thunderstorm can dramatically increase the concentration of allergens, and their ability to reach into the lungs. The risk of an event depends on the type of thunderstorm and the amount of pollen.

Why does thunderstorm asthma matter?
People with asthma or undiagnosed asthma are at risk of experiencing severe asthma symptoms during thunderstorm asthma events. Grass pollen allergy is an important risk factor for getting thunderstorm associated asthma, even in people who have never had asthma before. Good strategies for reducing the risk include using inhaled asthma preventer medication, staying indoors, and using a well fitted facemask - ideally one rated as P2 or N95. Talk to your doctor if you have asthma or hay fever and want to know more about preventive medication to reduce your risk.

Asking for myself & the opposition housing spokesperson… do “billionaires or the children of billionaires” buy their house/s outright… or saddle themselves with a mortgage?! And I’m curious to know if all children of billionaires always get handed millions or billions to buy a house? #AusPol
Screenshot of The Guardian blog post titled “Bragg says Labor underwriting
'extremely wealthy' with first home buyer scheme.”

The Coalition isn't a fan of the government's 5% deposit scheme, and Andrew Bragg, the opposition housing spokesperson, says it's going to turn the government into a major property developer.
Speaking to RN Breakfast, Bragg says the scheme shouldn't be a free-for-all:
“This is an uncapped scheme which is available to billionaires or the children of billionaires if they want to use a government program. I think we're getting to a point where Australia is becoming a ridiculous nation where the taxpayer is underwriting mortgage insurance schemes for extremely wealthy people.”

On pausing changes to the construction code, and streamlining environmental approvals for housing, Bragg says both were Coalition policies.
He says the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act has been "very anti housing development"
“Just because a bird flew over a housing lot in
1971 shouldn't mean we can't have houses built today. And that's frankly what's happening now.”

Repost with Alt Text Press release from the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance regarding antisemitism, press freedom and artistic expression. #AusPol
Media statement from MEAA.
July 10, 2025
Bid to fight antisemitism must not override press freedom or artistic expression.
The Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance condemns hate speech, including antisemitism, as a threat to democracy, a free media, and equality.
Antisemitism, as a form of racism, should be met with the principle of zero tolerance.
Steps to rid society of racist behaviour should, where properly considered, be supported.
MEAA welcomes the Prime Minister's willingness to address this issue and the findings of the Special Envoy's Plan to Combat Antisemitism.
However, laws to deal with racism already exist. Courts, as well as human rights and anti-discrimination commissions, have the capacity to handle complaints and determine recommended penalties or other remedies.
Under the MEAA Journalist Code of Ethics, members have a responsibility to report responsibly on matters of race, religion, culture, and ethnicity. In addition, MEAA has developed Guidelines on Reporting Hate Speech and Extremism, which acknowledge that media freedom is underpinned by ethical reporting and that hate speech is antithetical to ethical journalism.
It is essential that ethical, fair, and public interest reporting is maintained through the upholding of the Code of Ethics and rigorous journalistic standards, not through external regulation by government bodies, lobby groups, or corporate interests.
When external groups seek to limit or influence the way in which journalism is told, press freedom and democratic discourse come under threat.
Just as independent media is critical to a functioning democracy, the arts and freedom of expression are closely intertwined.
Art sheds critical light on our society and must challenge preconceptions, even if that makes some people uncomfortable.
MEAA would be firmly against the adoption of policies that would pose a risk to the independence of the media and arts sectors.

Repost with alt text. Coalition has revealed last minute they’ll scrap payments for teaching, nursing & midwifery students while doing mandatory placement. Plus university-loan debts and fee-free Tafe. #AusPol
Screenshot of guardian blog post:
Nurses, midwives and educators criticise Coalition's last-minute decision to scrap prac payments for students
The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) has added its voice expressing "extreme concern" that a Coalition government under Peter Dutton would axe paid prac placements.
From July this year, eligible students including nurses and midwives will receive over $300 per week while undertaking their mandatory 800 hours of clinical placement training.
The ANMF federal secretary, Annie Butler, said Dutton's announcement that a Coalition government if elected, would axe paid prac placements, as well as university-loan debts and fee-free Tafe, which would combine to have a devastating impact on the predominantly-female nursing and midwifery workforce:
“We know that placement poverty is a real issue for students who lose income from their regular paid jobs and then have to pay for a whole range of everyday costs, like finding an affordable rental property, parking, tolls, childcare, uniforms and other clinical tools whilst they're training.
It's certainly impacted our ability to build the nursing and midwifery workforce, with students forced to quit their courses and abandon their chosen profession.”

Headline: Nationals leader says children who commit crimes don't deserve civil rights.

Oh wow. Nationals leader David Littleproud is openly saying that children who commit crimes don't deserve civil rights.

This is the message that conservative talk back loves, but it is not borne out by the evidence, which shows that early intervention is key. And it's not just a one-and-done approach - it has to be a whole of society approach. Former Queensland premier Steven Miles told me that midwives he spoke to in the Queensland Health system could identify which babies would run into trouble with the law, because they saw the signs of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome up close in newborns. So it's about early intervention with children and family support from the very first developmental stages - which the evidence bears out - not just bootcamps and detention centres. And what Littleproud is not saying here, is that he is talking about Indigenous children, who are over-represented in our justice systems.

Quote in bold and italics:
“We have got to a point in society where I get all the criminologists and everybody talking about civil rights. We have hit a tipping point where the civil rights of an individual need to be put aside for the civil rights of a community.”

Here’s the response to my official complaint to TripleM. The classic “perceived as offensive and disrespectful towards women.” “Should have…addressed the topic with more sensitivity.” Ah yes. More sensitive = not being misogynistic, sexist or racist. We’re a sensitive lot us women.
Dear Maddy
Thank you for taking the time to write to us and for your feedback relating to comments you heard on Triple M on Monday 24 February 2025.

We sincerely regret that the comments made during the Marty Sheargold Show were perceived as offensive and disrespectful towards women. We take this matter very seriously and acknowledge the impact that such remarks can have on our audience.

The comments were made during a discussion on the Matildas' performance in the "She Believes" Cup. While they were intended to be irreverent and contrarian, we recognise that they were inappropriate and did not meet the standards of respect and sensitivity that our audience expects.

As a commercial broadcaster, we are committed to upholding community standards and ensuring our content reflects the values of inclusivity and respect. We do not condone, endorse, or seek to make light of behaviour that is disrespectful to any individual or group and do not wish to create content that could be perceived in this way.

The views expressed on the Marty Sheargold Show do not align with Triple M's views and values. Triple M remains a strong supporter and advocate for women's and men's sports and is committed to creating and promoting a respectful and inclusive media environment. We sincerely apologise for any offence or distress caused.

We agree that Marty Sheargold should have chosen his words more carefully and addressed the topic with more sensitivity. The matter has been addressed directly with Marty Sheargold and he has expressed his sincere apologies.

If you are not satisfied with this response, you may refer your complaint to the Australian

PETITIONS/PETITION/EN7076Infographic/poster about partner income tests in Australian welfare payments. In the middle there’s a drawing of two people embracing and kissing, but with their faces covered by a red heart. Above and below them are two red banners. Text below. Behind them is a subtle pink heart pattern, with solid light pink behind text.

Heading: Official Australian Federal Parliament
Petition to end partner income tests in welfare payments.
Top banner: HAPPY VALENTINES DAY.
Bottom banner: congrats on your
POVERTY + DEPENDENCE.
Smaller text at bottom: Australians deserve dignity, safety, and independence.
Yet the current welfare system ties financial support to a partner's income, leaving many struggling to survive or trapped in unsafe relationships.

Typically a scene I cannot comprehend during the Australian summer. However the other day it suddenly got so cold I could feel this in my bones 😆 Sylvensteinspeicher, Germany. Inspired by reference photo by Natalia. #Art #Procreate #Uplift #pwME #LandscapeArt

Will I fall asleep before 5am tonight? Any other unwilling night owls out there? #pwME #MECFS #ChronicIllness #Insomnia #Spoonie #DisabilityArt #Art
Digital drawing of a woman in bed with eyes wide open and very tired face. Around her head & pillow, times are written in a semi circular shape. 11pm, 12am, 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am. The sheets and pillow are green with light green pattern. And there’s shadow cast around her, suggesting moonlight coming through the window. Insta handle @/maddyob.art

For many people, their phone is a lifeline to the outside world. 25% of people with #MECFS are bed-bound or housebound. Some of those are too sick to even use a phone. But for those who can, it’s their only portal to community, connection, knowledge & advocacy. #MissingMillions #pwME #LongCovid
