I just got here and am immediately emotionally invested in these fictional characters. Uh, has Autumn at all been told of aro and ace folks? Not everyone benefits from such labels, but it might be worth looking into...

All true. Although of course part of the whole deal is making the floor of what is acceptable to do to everyone lower and lower until what you can do to anyone is acceptable because at least you're only throwing brown people in the camps.

I imagine there's practical merits for an artist being on an awful platform like Tumblr or Bsky or (to a lesser degree, practically speaking) Twitter, but for what it's worth, I've found Wafrn a lot nicer, and it does have some Bsky integration.

I realize this is a bit of a tangent from the political thing, but I've been thinking about Ballard's "Why I Want To Fuck Ronald Reagan" again lately, so the place where the two overlap on the Venn diagram is very much on my mind.

Like, "I am a good person because I only watch good things," which on the one hand means championing anything even slightly gay as being Actually Morally Good To Watch, as opposed to merely a show, and also means If I Don't Like Your Show, It Must Be Morally Wrong To Like It.

Though come to think of it, you encounter that same thing in fandom sometimes, where people desperately try to find ways that their consumption of a particular piece of art is revolutionary praxis. (I call it the "West Wing" crowd, but I wonder how much of it is from an evangelical upbringing.)

What do they think "identifying as" means, I wonder? They're not against walking 500 miles and walking 500 more. All they're against is walking 1000 miles!

Craig added: "I'm not transphobic. I'm not against a man identifying as a woman, dressing as a woman. I'm not against any of that. All I'm against is saying that he actually is a woman when he's not a woman.

But honestly, everything I have always loved about Spider-Man is present in this trend and its artists, yourself absolutely included, and seeing a childhood icon I still love reflecting my struggles, in a huge Petraverse of possibilities, has been so wonderful.

macksting @macksting.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

I still have a huge soft spot for college-age Spider-Man's period of living in an apartment trying to do laundry secretly while selling his Spidey pics to *two* papers, one that paid well but hated Spider-Man (while the cops themselves were always after him) and other loved him but paid peanuts.
