It was so awful almost nobody blinked at the "Browns on Browns crime" comment by Herbstriet. Just fire them both.

I've always thought Kirk Herbstriet was kinda an idiot, but you can't go calling Cleveland's penalty issues "Browns on Browns crime."

Maga world gives no shits about Eric Schmitt schmitting the bed in front of Jack Smith. If their flimsy conspiracy theory is true then they can gloat about catching a Dem red-handed; if it's not then if libs react they can laugh about "owning"then; and if libs don't react the story dies

To these folks losing coverage due to administrative burden is a feature, not a bug. Feel free to replace the middle two letters of "folk" in the post to get the full F-ect.

I wonder if folks are projecting the political (dis?)equilibrium were in on the economy. The economy has been oddly resilient to how fucked things are politically around the developed world.

In case anyone is interested, here is a new working paper on non-binary treatments with staggered interventions. Essentially, I show under what assumptions it is valid to estimate cohort x time dose-response functions. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

A Heterogeneous Slopes Approach to Difference-in-Differences with Non-Binary Treatments
I extend the approach of Wooldridge (2023, 2025) to allow for heterogeneous gains to treatment in the context of staggered interventions for non-binary treatmen

Projecting your personal experience on the economy as a whole it's a fallacy of composition. Socials amplify this fallacy because people doing a bit better aren't chirping as loudly, just like my econ students who learn well but had to work hard aren't lining up to praise their professor's teaching.

R² is useless in nonstationary time series, and I'm not holding you to any double standard. Hell, I don't even know what makes the vibecession "real": that it's just vibes or that the vibes are linked to a real 'cession? Sketchy data analysis catches my eye. I wish you well.

Even establishing a clear /association/ is sketchy if there's serial correlation due to common trends.

That's fine if it's clear and you don't use terms like "explains." A reasonable person would interpret this to imply a casual claim.

You really should try taking first differences of all of these variables to make sure the correlations aren't spurious.

Did the analysis also consider state capacity to collect revenue from less distortionary sources? This story also seems to fit and explains why some institutionally weak countries rely on tariff revenue even today.

One aspect of research funding that it took me a while as a prof to appreciate: Someone who directs significant funding can shape the questions researchers investigate, *even researchers they don't directly fund*. Why? Because many researchers chase citations, and better-funded areas get cited more.

W/o getting drawn into the "seriously or literally" / "it'll never happen" trap, we need to stomp *hard* on the continuing effort to undermine Article 1 power of the purse by saying that this or that revenue stream makes something outside the normal budget process. 1/ www.nbcnews.com/business/eco...

Casual inference is the art of knowing why your estimate isn't casual, claiming it is anyway, and adding a bunch of "proofs" to your methods section to confuse reviewers. Bonus points for fancy notation like integral symbols or Kronecker products.

With this supposedly-Christian ethos we should have the best education system in the world, right? ... Right? Because otherwise it'd be like they just don't want to feed the poor OR teach them so they can feed themselves, and gosh that would be pretty hypocritical.
