Abolish the job service providers. Bring back functional government-assisted recruitment of unemployed workers.

Other ways of controlling inflation are possible. The RBA should be able to: * Increase compulsory superannuation contributions. * Reduce the GST rebate to companies, currently 100%. The RBA's toolbox should have more than just a hammer.

The RBA chooses to defend its adherence to discredited neoliberal doctrine. That's why it chooses the indirect path of raising interest rates to control inflation when other actions are possible.

These wages range from $7.15 to $9.80 per day, far below the minimum wage in the community. This means that incarcerated people working on Victoria’s roads will be paid as little as 90c per hour. End forced and underpaid labour in Australia @ourfairgo.bsky.social

How much money has Santos Limited received from Australian commonwealth, state and territory governments in grants and subsidies over that time that they were paying no company tax?

Every time you fill up your car with fuel, you're paying more tax (fuel excise and GST) on that single tank of fuel than Santos has paid in company tax in more than TEN YEARS.

Don't wait. Get those tests, especially if family medical history had stuff like high cholesterol or other risk factors are present. Everyone should learn possible heart attack symptoms, and that men and women can have different symptoms.

Very good article. The only thing I take issue with is the advice to wait until 50 for various tests especially cholesterol and heart health. In my opinion, one's first cholesterol test should be done much earlier, I suggest age 30. Many people with heart issues experience them before age 50.

17 points and Wharfie Time. I was a bit uneasy looking at that margin and I was thinking, that's under three goals. Three goals. That's how many goals Brisbane kicked in the final minute in a game against Sydney last year. Sydney were up by 20 points with a minute to go and won by two points.

Even worse are the financial penalties and punitive effective tax rates that discourage unemployed workers from undertaking seasonal work such as harvest work. This makes harvest work unprofitable. When the work offers no profit, people won't do it.

Jobs have been harder to fill since the Howard government destroyed the CES. Severing that link between employers and unemployed workers has made it harder to recruit staff. Some employers don't even know how to recruit staff anymore. "Help wanted" signs in shop windows are ineffective.

Hawthorn fans acting so hard done by. I have no sympathy. Since Hawthorn won their first premiership in 1961, they have won 13 premierships, an average of one every 5 years. They've won 4 since Essendon last won a final, and 12 since St Kilda won their flag. Not every top 4 finish nets a flag.

No unemployed workers or their representatives? Had unemployed workers been represented, the panel would hear about the unemployment-shy employers who game the immigration system. These employers refuse to employ locals then complain about being unable to find workers.

🚨 New report from the Australian Institute of Health & Welfare on mortality rates of working-age welfare recipients between 2012-2022 makes for grim reading, could be hugely improved tomorrow by raising rates as per the Government's own committee. @aihw.bsky.social www.aihw.gov.au/reports/cent...
Key findings

Of the 287,000 people aged 22-64 who died over 2012-2022, almost 3 in 5 people received income support payments

Coronary heart disease was the leading cause of death among income support recipients

Income support recipients were overrepresented in deaths from suicide, accidental poisoning, and alcoholic liver disease

Mortality rates and leading causes of death differed depending on the type of payment received

In March 1996, Australia still had the CES. Over time, it was abolished and replaced by employment "services". Scope creep for these "services" over time has destroyed meaningful assistance for unemployed workers and replaced it with a burdensome compliance treadmill.

Don't allow your pets anywhere near a sick bird. Dogs sniffing near them will inhale the virus & likely develop a sub clinical infection which makes them dangerous carriers. Cats living with the dogs will get very sick & die.
