Happy Banned Books Week AND Anti-Prime Day! We've spent this week fighting with Amazon, who blocked Issue 3... because a stylized illustration of a statue = porn, at least if you're a queer publication. The best way to support us is directly. Code ANTIPRIME gets you 15% off subscriptions this week.

start tugging on the dangling yarn of 'affordable access to art' vs 'artists' right to earn enough to live' and there's no stopping until you unravel the entire sweater of modern capitalism 🤷🏻‍♀️

macey v. the sad beige no-light writing study begins round 2: tape ALL the things >:D ...<takes photo> oh hell, I have not taped all the things have I >:[

A photograph of a room with a desk covered in a plastic sheet with two empty paint trays and a box with two gallons of paint on the floor. The walls are a sad landlord greige and all the skirting has been taped, except for a section on the floor which has been missed.

perhaps 'reinventing bcl in increasingly convoluted pseudolanguages' is simply the inherent carcinisation-equivalent of IAC... 🦀

110

Macey Levington @macey.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

okay but there's something deeply weird and beautiful about a config language that just sorta shlorps in variables osmotically from its surrounds if you don't pay enough attention. who doesn't want production to run by amoeba logic. (...sorry max 😂)

heh the imperative v declarative foundational difference & its impact on 'I can monitor the results of a user's API calls' alone was the bane of my existence for a while there... now, annealing... (but I should stop there 😂) but yeah in the end: incredibly complex, much emergent, very system, wow 😱

three-quarters through Between Two Fires and it's delightful - possibly the wrong word for an ecstatic and grotesque medieval plague-horror full of surrealist rot, grossly biologic sacred/anti-sacred figures, and just so many beautifully-drawn characters suffering and falling. indescribable tbh. 👌🏻

Macey Levington @macey.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Between Two Fires does this, very occasionally, usually in the most fraught or high action scenes. here we start with the priest, move to Delphine, then to Thomas: it's very cool to watch, and certainly lends to the book's overall surrealism!

it is contracted!!!! it is (theoretically! presumably!) coming! it is largely written!!!! some day! please! (it's based off en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archite... and i love it very much and i really hope it gets to be born 😭)

maybe? but until it can hermetically reproduce a consistent output from a 'same human meant to type a similar idea but said a slightly different sentence' we're in butterfly-flaps-wings levels of chaos nonsense vis. differentiated output, and you can't build a stable stack like that?

020

Macey Levington @macey.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

like yes obviously depth varies but also the NECESSITY of depth varies, that's not inappropriate, but- lol here is where i'd say 'look for Patterns in Reliability from Pearson in <some time 2027>' if we had an announcement but yes I should stop now or I literally will write a book'sworth

130

Macey Levington @macey.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

no okay I don't remotely agree with THAT. I definitely witness multi-factor post-outage analysis from friends who've spread elsewhere in webscale companies in the medium-to-large, places whose brand is recognizable. 'why is our k8s CP down but also ISTIO is fine - oh error avoidance' etc.

Macey Levington @macey.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

with my professional hat on to this i deeply and sincerely can only say: weh. but okay no, class-3 also encompasses (imo) business-design, the integration of even purchased product systems for any real specialized use-case, acts of thoughtful choosing. LLM can be assistive but not final, there.

exactly this 🤣 once in college after a bad, bad rain storm, I was due to take the train home along the North Sea route, but it was cancelled. the track was just fine but a flood had hollowed out the dirt from under it and washed it out to sea. this train might keep running for a little bit, but...

I mean. maybe? I'm deeply deeply skeptical. There's first, second, and third-order engineering. Output a known implementation: sure. Solve known problems to get to an implementation: okay, with guidance. Integrate and resolve abstract complex-system emergent behaviours: not a chance.

the answer to 'were they mining coal at -' was 'yes' nmrs.org.uk/mines-map/co... just like. in general, in north yorkshire, on the moors, on the dales, in the uplands: yes. probably ironstone too; to this day the moors are pocked with collapsed bell pits and the streams are red with iron ore.

sometimes Book 2 research is 'okay, what WAS Napoleon doing that year?' other times I find myself halfway up the watershed of the River Ouse swearing to myself about historic coalfields and why the HELL the watershed for York is all the way in the DALES. british topography i just want to talk

it's bi visibility day! there are 237 days until BLOOD OF QUEENS hits the shelves! is it bi? is it queer? is it both of those and more? look, all I'm gonna say: Dani's no Lady, Matherin sure is a Prince, and Zivriel? well, Zivriel has two hands >:D

A graphic introducing the cover mockup of the book Blood of Queens by Macey Levington (a dark grey fake cover with white title text), surrounded by lighter grey tropes. These include: historical fantasy, disaster OT3, is it murder if they only die a little?, alt hist with a twist, be gay do crime, accidental death god Henry VIIIth, and stealing from necromancers is a deathly affair. There is a friendly waving skeleton. The novel is comped as 'Lies of Locke Lamora meets Gideon the Ninth by way of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.'

Stopped by the local to pick up my Blacktail preorder the other day and was aghast that the bookseller (who is a specfic person!!) hadn't heard of Mount Char. Ugh!!! If 'Dark Cosmic Academia' was a genre that went 'squelch' and also played 3D chess with the time stream. I should read it again.
