Those old enough will remember when Windows first gained traction and every bloody app was "Win" something-or-other. Now Omarchy has taken off and every app and plug-in is "Oma" something-or-other.

How about instead of subsidising batteries and putting the onus of storage on the customer, we force electricity companies to pay us for electricity at a rate closer to what we pay them? I pay them 50c per kWh, but they pay me on average around 5c. It's crazy. @chrisbowenmp.bsky.social

If you run a YouTube channel, there's still time to rethink that AI-generated thumbnail before I click "don't recommend channel" on your video and never see you again.

There's a human designer somewhere who historically has made flyers with a yellow/red/brown pallet, paint brush strokes to highlight text, and bold fonts, and Chat GPT has completely ruined their life.

Back in Windows on my home PC for the first time in two months. Mostly just to make sure updates are applied, but I could do with some grown-up power management from an OS for a change. 😅

Me asking the Bash shell where Mitch McConnell is, and it replying "missing".

Coming up on two months using Omarchy now. Haven't booted into Windows since installing. DHH is inspirational when talking about computers, but abhorrent when talking about politics. I'm taking solace in the fact that Omarchy is not a commercial venture so I'm not funnelling money to fascists.

Getting lots of micro NBN dropouts this morning in North Albury. Internet connection drops for 5-10 seconds and comes back. No reported outage ... frustrating.

Managed to kill my Omarchy session tonight with an OpenCode-generated script so thoroughly that the PC wouldn't even boot. I had to unplug the mains power and hold the power button in for 15 seconds to drain the motherboard. Never seen anything like it before.

If the Australian Labor Party just did what was good for the majority of the Australian population and ignored how absolutely shit the opposition and ON were, they’d be even further ahead in the polls with less to worry about. #Auspol.

LLMs ("AI") tend towards the global average of everything, so they're horrible for creative tasks and produce slop. However, I'm coming around when it comes to things that you *want* to be average. I've been using OpenCode to help me configure/diagnose Linux. I don't want creativity for that.

Hot take: Magneto being a holocaust survivor didn't even make sense back when the original X-Men movie (set in the "not-too-distant future") came out in 2000. It'd be dumb to do it again now and hand wave it away with some stupid "he's a mutant so he's long-lived" excuse.

It's weird, the pride you feel for doing things many people would consider mundane. I haven't opened a desktop PC in decades so that was scary for me.

Something I've plugged into my Dell ultrawide (which is also a USB dock) is preventing Windows from turning off the screen. The screen turns off after three minutes, but immediately turns back on. I have some sleuthing to do on the weekend. I suspect it's the mouse dongle.

I got a new keyboard - the Nuphy Air75 v3. One tiny thing I didn't realise would take time to get used to is that the F keys aren't grouped together in sets of four with gaps between them, so my muscle memory of finding F5 has been disrupted.

Scorptec's "ready to run" PC was shipped to me chock full of packing foam inside the case. I had to unscrew the case to remove it. Makes sense for shipping, but I wouldn't call it "ready to run"! /r/mildlyinfuriating

Going to have to manually install the second M.2 SSD into my new computer when it arrives, as the shop wanted $ and extra time to do it for me. It looks *reasonably* simple from a quick YouTube search but it has been many years since I've installed my own hardware components!

Does anyone bother naming their #PowerShell module functions generically and using the DefaultCommandPrefix setting to apply a noun prefix anymore? I've never done it with my modules and I'm wondering whether I should.

So ... did everyone else know that USB 3 ports emit a bit of radio noise and can make your 2.4 GHz dongle mouse feel really janky? I plugged the dongle into an extension cable so it wasn't near a cluster of ports anymore and now the mouse pointer is buttery smooth.

Damn it, I was very excited that I'd found an old Surface Pro 4 lying around and was gonna put Omarchy on it, but then I realised I'd have to go back to the Surface Dock and dismantle my USB-C infrastructure. Don't want to go backwards, so shelving that idea for now.

Things that I am obsessed with right now: * Dan Da Dan (the anime and associated collectables) * Azure Automation (this is the shiznit and I want to move all our PowerShell scripts to it) * Omarchy (desperately want a new PC so I can dual boot with this and try it out)

It's 2026, and two people can be co-authoring a SharePoint-hosted Word document simultaneously, but SharePoint will still say it's "locked for editing" if you try to edit its metadata in the document library.

Worth remembering Australians pay a low rate of income tax compared to other advance economies. You would have to earn more than $200,000 before you start paying more tax in Australia than in the USA We are a low taxing nation. Automatic tax cuts each year will only reduce govt services.
Chart showing the average income tax rate of Australia and USA by percent of average full-time earnings.

Australians pay a lower level of tax until you get to 185% of FT earnings - or about $199,960

I really hope the Greens don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good when it comes to Labor passing the budget. The negative gearing/CGT changes might not go far enough, but they're a good start. @larissawaters.bsky.social

Tired of the narrative that the people of Farrer voted for One Nation because they were tired of being neglected by the major parties. Regional areas have been neglected, but there was a fantastic independent candidate that they could've voted for. Farrer elected One Nation purely out of racism.

Ok, vote cast for @michellemilthorpe.bsky.social in Farrer. I think there are enough nasty people in this electorate to push One Nation over the line, but I'm holding out some hope for Michelle.

I always cringed when someone accused progressive protesters of being paid to be there, but damn if I'm not starting to think that Gina's bankrolling the One Nation trolls in Facebook comments. They're just relentless (and needlessly nasty).
