this is excellent, really gets at the heart of why Sonic CD feels like the "truest" Sonic game, and gets at some stuff i've been thinking about with regards to SEGA, Sonic's future, and AI that i think a small chunk of Sonic fans have been worrying about lately.

#ad NEW VIDEO! I played SILENT HILL: Townfall and it got... quite close to home. The details of the in-game world are something that made the experience for me, so I wanted to make a lil essay focused on that <3 Thank you to KONAMI UK for sponsoring the vid! youtu.be/55mgRMzLcRw

also: why do a trilogy? they could just drop an Episode 10 and then leave it for a while.

i'm nervous about more because it's my favourite story in the world and we've already been burned but like: you need someone who understands it's a monomyth; you need someone who understands it's a fairy tale and not sci-fi, and you especially need to ignore the angry mobs surrounding it.

of course, i'm refusing to give in to the people who say Episode 8 was "bad," (it isn't, it might actually be the best one). though i do agree that they should absolutely drop "the skywalker saga" as branding. it's bad and is extremely limiting in what they can do in the future.

giving one creator 10,11,12 means disney buys into everyone who told them 7,8,9 "failed" because they didn't have a plan, and not recognising the actual reason they failed: they lined up three creators at the start, had to pivot when one of them put out a bad movie, and refused to push release.

is this the opposite of music gatekeeping? anyway, obligatory: never heard of the song or even the artist and i'm pretty deep in the "i must know all music" culture.

looking forward to whatever weird thing asha sharma announces in the next few days to make ignorant gamers ignore/forget that this stuff keeps happening!

000

danny? @maayascarlet.com · 20/09/2026

them releasing video of "behind the scenes" stuff on the game makes me think they wanted to show SOMETHING but have no actual game to show yet, but that's just my read on it as an outsider.

"but what about the Prime games?" no, thanks!

everyone is going to have their own Metroid play orders, and they're all probably valid, but to get myself hyped for Dread i played [Zero Mission - AM2R - Super - Fusion - Dread] and had an absolute blast. i am 100% going to play it all again in that order in Jan for Ravenous.

Just go on the attack for once instead of sitting there trying to please your enemy who is in the process of trying to humiliate you. www.welcometohellworld.com/i-do-not-bel...

Just once in my life I would like to see a Democrat being interviewed by right wing media like Fox News or right wing media like every single other outlet treat their questions with the contempt they deserve. I know it's not going to fix everything or maybe even anything but how much coverage and how much groundswell of excitement from the base do you think it would inspire if when asked about "boys in girls sports" or some other stupid fucking culture war distraction one of them finally said "What the fuck are you talking about man? You sound like a dumb asshole right now."

What's the worst that's going to happen the New York Times is gonna work overtime to make sure you don't get elected? They were already doing that buddy.

You simply say "Are you stupid? Do you think I am stupid? And do you think all of the people watching at home are stupid? Everyone sees through what you are doing. Using one group as a scapegoat for the very real problems everyone has – all caused by Republicans by the way – unlike this fake one you have made up. Dumb asshole."

Just go on the attack for once instead of sitting there trying to please your enemy who is in the process of trying to humiliate you.

i kept having a youtube ad pushed on me for this and it involved a woman becoming so engrossed in these she ignores her friends and misses a train she's waiting for and i could not think of a more baffling way to advertise the service to people.

danny? @maayascarlet.com · 28/08/2026

a lot of people who aren't deep in the AWK trenches are gonna be fucking baffled by this, but goddamn. i'm biased, andrew could put out a cd of fart noises and i'd declare it AOTY, but this is a real treasure of a record. "north hollywood" might be one of his best songs.

andrew w.k. stealth dropping a jazz album during the lunar eclipse. i have missed him so much.

A man with long dark hair, wearing white jeans and a white t-shirt, is leaning face forward against a white brick wall. The view is from behind so the face is obscured.

On the 20th of August 1983, Daicon IV was released. It was made by Daicon Film, a 12 man studio with the 3 founding members being Hideaki Anno, Hiroyuki Yamaga, and Takami Akai. The studio would later go on to become Gainax studios. Happy 43rd Anniversary 🎉

loaded up a video on Touhou (out of curiousity) and the first words spoken were: "some games cast a wide net to attract as big of an audience as possible," and they flashed up an image of Stardew Valley, which is the quickest i've ever deduced someone as not knowing what they are talking about.

years long running joke about how ridiculous uk politics is, now stands a chance at winning an election because the most right-wing guy in the country decided to prove how popular he is by resigning and immediately rerunning for his own seat, and every other party decided to refuse to take part.

i knew the explanation for silver repeatedly coming back in time would be "yeah, he just keeps being sent back and has to keep figuring out why" so nice to see it confirmed. just keeps it simple and they can do some fun stuff with it later on.

it's so funny that the crowd trying desperately to hate on Nolan's Odyssey are trying to paint the 2004 Troy movie as a masterpiece that was beloved in its time as a comparison point, but everyone remembers that movie being deeply dull and landing with a thud when it released. fooling no one!

as a devout andrew w.k. fan i of course am compelled to show everyone the cover for andrew's fifth album YOU'RE NOT ALONE, painted by Boris Vallejo and his wife Julie Bell.

cover for andrew w.k.'s fifth album YOU'RE NOT ALONE. andrew stands in a suburban street below a nights sky, looking off to the side at a small fantasy dragon hiding in the bushes. STAR and SATURN are featured prominently in the night sky. in one of the houses behind andrew is a shadowy figure.

if you have a fan theory about deltarune that involves some dude named "gaster" i need you to know that i played the game for twenty hours and don't know who that is so there's probably not going to be a dramatic reveal involving them. just a heads up!

danny? @maayascarlet.com · 17/07/2026

finally binged all of deltarune, decided to dive into all the fan theories, discovered there's so much secret shit in the game that i had no idea what anyone was talking about. weird feeling!
