If we are thinking about a payment model that would be at least as good as buying physical media, them I don't think it matters how much you listen to something. But if you just want to do the nice thing then maybe think of a yearly budget and divide it based on scrobbles? I should consider that.

They say money doesn't bring happiness. But it takes away a lot of the problems. Same goes for the things in your list. There's nothing external that can shield from depression.
