We could have the attitude that for things that we haven't really spent much time and effort to verify or write ourselves that we should just use them in a personal capacity.

Wonder about this sort of case is whether it should be published. Should we have higher expectations about effort and commitment to maintain for stuff published to package repos than we used to? I'm not sure about the answer. As you said, you got this generated while cooking. I could do the same.

They will probably write a stern letter to the management is my very low expectations of them. They aren't a party fit to rise to any moment.

What does moving faster mean? Does it mean dependency upon the US, or does it mean investment into our own infrastructure and frontier models? A data center built by AWS or GCP is not a real investment - it is a point of leverage to be used against us by a power willing to use it.

NEW Why holding a placard is a terrorist act, while causing disruption in a balaclava is not The mess caused by ministers and the police not taking terrorism law seriously By me at @prospectmagazine.co.uk www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/law/th...

Recent events in England now reveal the practical difference between terrorists and protesters. It would seem that terrorists peacefully hold placards and get immediately arrested, while protesters wear black uniforms and balaclavas and disrupt infrastructure and do not get arrested.

How did we get into this mess? How have we placed ourselves in the position where terrorism legislation is used to detain and prosecute peaceful protesters, while those adopting the terror tactics of private armies seem to be free to do as they wish?

The reason is that for some time British politicians have not taken terrorism legislation seriously, and that ministers have got into the habit of misusing terror laws for easy targets.

And where is the labour backbench rage at least in briefs demanding that the home office or PM say or do something, or direct the police to actually do their job over arresting grannies with placards?

I know Cabinet collective responsibility and this is the home office brief, but frankly why isn't there at least one cabinet minister calling this out? You don't need home office sign off for calling out paramilitary thugs as bad.

Seems the difference between ‘protestors’ and ‘terrorists’ is that protestors wear balaclavas while terrorists hold placards.

Number one problem is you didn't have a performance budget to allow you add more features.

Wish we had more clarity/reform for permitted development rights for flats. Director of a 1980s share of freehold block flats with most flats having their own gas boiler. Seems no way forward except for everyone to buy another gas boiler. The retrofit of existing flats always seem to be forgotten.

There are many fewer outlets, and many of the remaining are hollowed out shells of what they once were, and many have pivoted away from professional reviews and features to becoming lowish effort content farms.

SMBC 1-panel comic update. A four-quadrant chart is shown with the title "know your branches of philosophy." On the left of the horizontal x axis, there is "careful reasoning." on the right of the x axis, "confusing bullshit." At the top of the y vertical axis there is "stuff that matters," and at the bottom of the y axis can be found "stuff that doesn't matter." A dot is located at the far bottom left, identified as "analytic." Another dot is located at the far top right, identified as "continental."

Does seem like a very removal light set. My pre-release sealed was overwhelmingly red black - ended up going blue white because it was the only thing with removal. Worked out 2-1-0 and nearly went 3-0. I do worry about limited.

The more damning thing is that Starmer squandered the start of parliament by not doing any kind of tax reforms, instead mostly just tinkering with the numbers at the margins of a dysfunctional system. Some of it they can hide behind the terrible manifesto, but mostly they were vacant of ideas.

The choices are oftentimes not in the hands of the tenants or owners of homes. It requires major cultural change in central government to actually remove these roadblocks.

Michael Rutter @m-rutter.com · 25/06/2026
Also lots more development roadblocks in place that stop owners from modifying their buildings for aircon or air to air heat pump - require jumping through legalistic hoops to get permission. I would love to replace my flat gas boiler with an air-to-air heat pump, but I just don't see a legal route

Unfortunately they just aren't sold really in the UK market - in large part because our a large % of windows are ill designed for air con units. They most windows aren't "sash" windows - instead they often open outwards on a hinge.

I do wonder what the average age of someone buying GTA VI is going to be. It's been so long since the last release I wouldn't be surprised if the main buyers are like 30 and 40 year olds and it's an event that is just missed by anyone younger than that.

Not defending some of the comments by MPs about bond markets, but it doesn't help a lot of people claiming to speak on behalf of the market seem to confuse their personal politics and how the market would realistically respond to a change in government. The discourse is poor all around.

Something kind of similiar to this might be Stand By Me, which was a successful film in US, but was a massive hit in Japan to the extent that it was still subject to pop culture references there decades after it was relevant in the US.

What is the demographics of a PC gamer in the market buying new hardware in 2026? Surely middle aged professionals at this point. It seems bizarre that it's actually hard to find something discrete.

I strongly believe at this point a lot of the pretty fanatical anti-AI people 1) still have a point in a lot cases esp in creative fields but 2) seriously need to update their knowledge of what these models are capable of beyond GPT 3.5 and Google topic summaries. This stuff is improving rapidly.
