Fall colors in the Sylvania Wilderness in the Upper Peninsula of #Michigan on a delightful backpacking trip in late September.
Blazing orange-red maple trees light up the shoreline of a lake. There are a few evergreen trees. All are reflected in the clear blue. The sky is blue.A pale green tent and a red-brown tent are in the shade of an old-growth forest comprised of deciduous trees with yellow leaves and a few evergreen trees. A clear blue sky is beyond the leaves. Dappled sunlight reaches the forest floor in a few places. A blue lake is just beyond the trees.

H.O.M.E.S. forever
A blue and orange morning sky begins to light up the rocky shoreline of a lake. The outlines of several trees are on the right. A few small waves break on the shore.

Hike to top of Rueval on Benbecula, part of the #HebrideanWay. Peat cuttings drying in the mid ground. Saw Bog Myrtle, Yellow Iris, and Marsh Thistle along the way. Incredibly windy at the top!
A cloudy sky, heavy with rain, looms over Rueval with its heathery and boggy slopes in dark green and yellow green. There are some chunks of peat that were cut and are drying.

Great Blue Heron at Baker Wetlands and a #Kansas sunset for your moment of Zen at the dimming of the day. Peace.
A Great Blue Heron skins over the surface of a pond at dusk. The pond is still and shows a reflection of the heron, neighboring trees, and the golden clouds. The sky is orange and gray. Some leafed-out deciduous trees are highlighted by the setting sun and their reflection and a few ripples are on the pond’s surface.

Springtime in Wisconsin at Perrot State Park in the Upper Mississippi River Valley
The Mississippi River and several forested islands are surrounded by rocky bluffs. The sky is blue with some cumulus clouds. Green leaves of Bloodroot with white flowers about to open up as the spring wildflowers poke up through the brown leaf litter of the forest floor.Evening sunlight lights up a hillslope next to a calm bay.

Tall pine trees cover the thrust-faulted mountain slope. The sky is blue but a little hazy from prescribed burning in another part of the forest.Water falls over a rock ledge of about 6-8 ft to form a plunge pool at the base.

A warm winter’s day in #Kansas with the gift of a good hike and a #sundog.
Orange-brown prairie grasses cover the crest of a ridge under a blue sky.A bare tree on the shore of a still frozen lake points upward to a sundog in the blue sky. The sundog shows hints of red and orange.

A fall day at Echo Cliff #Kansas
Golden and orange leaves glimmer in the sunlight on top of a tan sandstone cliff. A stream cuts along the cliff and a gravel point bar clings to the inside of the meander. The sky is a Kansas fall blue.A clear view of the sandstone cliff shows lenses of sandstone that formed as channels. There is some finer grained gray shale near the base. A stream occurs at the base of the cliff.

Really like my Kansas pharmacy.
A dark wood coffee table hosts a small planter with 4-6 plants and some magazines such as Bon Appetit. But the main thing is the paperback copy of “On Tyranny” by Timothy Snyder. That book is cream colored with red stripes near the binding.

Last day on the #IceAgeTrail in #Wisconsin for this trip. Skunk Cabbage ready to bloom on the Waupaca River Segment and a lovely bench on the Bohn Lake Segment.
A red skunk cabbage pushes up through the fragments of wood along the trail.
The lovely clear water of the river shows off the rocky and sandy stream bed. The floodplain is lined with deciduous trees not yet leafed out and a few conifers.A gray, weatherbeaten wooden bench says “ Sit for a spell. Listen. Watch. Daydream. Just breathe.”A wonderfully peaceful walk around Bohn Lake with conifers flanking a spur trail to the quiet, calm lake on a cloudy day.

A freshly sawn log that was across the trail has a T cut into it by the sawyer. A backpacker with a ridiculously large, but comfortable, sleeping pad hikes along the cleared trail.
A bloodroot with white petals and yellow stamens blooms a few inches above the ground surface still covered with last year’s brown leaves. Its own green leaf is still furled around the stem.

There are globular and tubular shapes of iron oxide in the conception.A small creek runs through pink boulders of quartzite that were originally deposited by a continental ice sheet about 500,000 years ago. The banks of the creek are grassy and bare, deciduous trees flank the creek bank.A track of a small mammal in dark mud looks like a handprint. The rough texture of tree bark is long resembles rectangular fibers.
