Raindrops fall on Cedar Pond in the #LandBetweenTheLakesNationalRecreationArea. #LBL
The thready bark of 4 cedar trees that are in front of a pond dimpled with rain drops. The ground under the cedar trees is bare. The other side of the pond has deciduous trees that still have green leaves.

Fall colors in the Sylvania Wilderness in the Upper Peninsula of #Michigan on a delightful backpacking trip in late September.
Blazing orange-red maple trees light up the shoreline of a lake. There are a few evergreen trees. All are reflected in the clear blue. The sky is blue.A pale green tent and a red-brown tent are in the shade of an old-growth forest comprised of deciduous trees with yellow leaves and a few evergreen trees. A clear blue sky is beyond the leaves. Dappled sunlight reaches the forest floor in a few places. A blue lake is just beyond the trees.

In June! Lovely walk, wish I could visit the Outer Hebrides more often. Your photos get me through the heat waves of Kansas.

H.O.M.E.S. forever
A blue and orange morning sky begins to light up the rocky shoreline of a lake. The outlines of several trees are on the right. A few small waves break on the shore.

Thumper loves the library book club bag!
A tiger tabby kitty turns around in black and red library bag that sits on a wooden floor. The kitty has a surprised look on her sweet face as if her privacy has been invaded.

I enjoyed a wonderful walk along Loch Laidon on Rannoch Moor. I learned a new-to-me wildflower, the Arctic Starflower.
Tree branches frame a blue loch with a sandy beach on a partly cloudy day. There are mountains in the distance.A small 7-petal white flower with a few lance-shaped green leaves pokes up above some brown pine cones. The evening sky is a hazy blue with clouds along the mountains in the distance. A forested ridge stretches down towards a loch and a shrubby grassland is in the forefront.

Hi Malcolm! I am hiking in Scotland and seeing these orchids is delightful. Even better is seeing you cuddle up next to Baby Dog and hearing your purrs.
Small pink orchids rise up about 3 inches from their broad-leaved base from the spongy, wet bog.

#FingerpostFriday. Eoligarry Circuit was a splendid! Stunning wildflowers, beaches, and headlands. I’d hike this again!

Hike to top of Rueval on Benbecula, part of the #HebrideanWay. Peat cuttings drying in the mid ground. Saw Bog Myrtle, Yellow Iris, and Marsh Thistle along the way. Incredibly windy at the top!
A cloudy sky, heavy with rain, looms over Rueval with its heathery and boggy slopes in dark green and yellow green. There are some chunks of peat that were cut and are drying.

I loved that beach! Such a big difference between low and high tide. It was a great spot for a swim. The orchids in the machair were wonderful too.

Great Blue Heron at Baker Wetlands and a #Kansas sunset for your moment of Zen at the dimming of the day. Peace.
A Great Blue Heron skins over the surface of a pond at dusk. The pond is still and shows a reflection of the heron, neighboring trees, and the golden clouds. The sky is orange and gray. Some leafed-out deciduous trees are highlighted by the setting sun and their reflection and a few ripples are on the pond’s surface.

The Lituya Bay example always enthralled my geology students. The early photos showing how high the tsunami reached in the mountainside and the survivor stories captivated them. Retired now or I’d be saving this for classes! Nature makes the best classroom.

Springtime in Wisconsin at Perrot State Park in the Upper Mississippi River Valley
The Mississippi River and several forested islands are surrounded by rocky bluffs. The sky is blue with some cumulus clouds. Green leaves of Bloodroot with white flowers about to open up as the spring wildflowers poke up through the brown leaf litter of the forest floor.Evening sunlight lights up a hillslope next to a calm bay.
