TIME AND TIDE (2009) Oil - 24” x 18” This painting started out to be just a morning exercise, kind of a companion idea to TIME'S PASSING. 1/2 #art

Rippling cobalt sea fades to pale sky as seen through a tall rectangular portal set in the wall of ancient ruins. Rough in outline where blocks are missing—showing through where the fit is uneven—the "window" outward is bathed in golden light and framed by an arched doorway, which is in turn bordered by a simple carved stone arch set in relief. The base is grown over with leafy vines blossoming with pale lavender wildflowers. Beyond the window floats a transparent sphere containing a solitary flame. Set on the stone step leading to the view out, the spiral of an ammonite rests open end up, drawing the viewers eye up to the floating sphere and above where missing blocks show through to pale blue.

Oh, this is one of the most aggrieving food safety failure sources & it's been going on since I was a newlywed living in CA. It feels like a huge deal just to get an hour or two in on a painting. Miles to go before I'm done. Thank goodness I don't owe this to anybody or I would feel terrible. I get so little time in on art that I sometimes think I can feel myself rusting.

I used to run a page called For Exposure, where I featured funny quotes from people who refused to pay artists. I let it die when Twitter did. But I just found some of the For Exposure Illustrated drawings I did, and I figured I'd let them live here.

Good suggestions in this thread. I make books out of found and recycled paper from time to time, they're not precious intentionally so I can be experimental with mediums and not feel like im ruining a good book. Took me about a year to gather enough steam for a small batch.
