Here's my little cheat sheet I'm pasting into my book! It's hard to consistently recall intervals from a single note, but remembering this little run is very easy. The goal is being able to find a key without any brain power.

Vexed again by 18th century engravers.

A yellowed book scan from an 18th century book of Scottish tunes. There's a measure, split by a double repeat bar, with three eighth notes on the left and two on the right. You'll note that that is not an even number.
