Cis people do not understand how much trans people's rights have regressed in just 5 years. 5 years ago, there were none of these restrictions. 19 states banned legal recognition 21 states have bathroom bans 8 states ban gender marker changes on DLs 25 ban gender affirming care for trans youth

I am very worried about the politicizing of this accident. The speed in which people have swept aside crew responsibility to hold an assigned altitude & understand NOTAMs is unsettling. Everyone seems to think instrument pilots means only GPS-capable pilots which is 100% wrong. This is not good.

3,000+ likes on this article that is now pushed by yahoo and still, it changes nothing. There was a NOTAM on the GPS. Pilots are trained to fly & land without GPS. The crew failed to hold its assigned altitude which has nothing to do with GPS. If you can't fly without GPS, do not fly. Ever.

Good-faith concern on this issue would be going, "hmm, professional sports leagues should probably have some standards in place to ensure trans competitors aren't getting an unfair advantage," googling for 5 minutes, realizing every sports league already has those standards and dropping it.

GDQ partnering with a game company owned by Saudi Arabia less than 24 hours after the end of SGDQ 2026, which yells out trans rights, and raises money for Doctors Without Borders (which does work in war-torn Yemen, a lot of the destruction done by Saudi air strikes), is certainly a choice.

Today the NTSB had to temporarily take down the docket for UPS flight 2976 because people used audio spectrogram images from the spectrogram study to reverse engineer a close approximation of the audio recorded by the cockpit area microphone, including the pilots' voices.
First off, while it's been possible for many years to do this, no one until now has attempted to do so as far as I'm aware, so the NTSB is learning a lesson there, as am I, since I wasn't previously aware that this was so easy to do.
Second, the colleagues of the UPS pilots lost in the crash have complained about this recreation of their final moments being spread across the internet, and rightly so. Moderators on many subreddits including one I moderate have been removing the recreation as a result.
But something I've noticed is that in many aviation spaces, those who call out the recreation as unethical are being piled on by those who disagree. Most of them argue that the cockpit audio somehow improves their understanding of the crash.
My opinion, as someone whose job is to understand crashes, is that this is preposterous. Hearing the cockpit audio has never improved my understanding of a crash in any meaningful way when transcripts and expert analysis are already available.
Furthermore, anyone who has ever lost someone in a crash knows that to hear audio of their final moments would be incredibly painful. I lost an (online) pilot friend in an accident in 2022 and would never want to hear that, ever. This is what makes the recreation unethical.
I understand that there is a human fascination with tragedy; it’s why plane crashes make such big news stories and why so many people read about them. It’s not a sin to find these events fascinating. But your fascination is NOT more important than the privacy of the families involved. Thank you.

Someone from China FOIA requested the NTSB for any documents related to their participation in the investigation into the 2022 crash of China Eastern Airlines flight 5735, widely speculated to be a case of pilot suicide. The documents are mostly boilerplate but we did get an FDR data plot:

New awareness campaign
A digital poster in the style of a World War II propaganda piece. Isolaed on a yellow background, a normal, squarish, 20-something guy with glasses is sitting working on a laptop. A ghostly figure of Hitler has his arm around the guy and is grinning and shaking a fist triumphantly looking at the laptop screen. On the lid of the laptop where an apple might otherwise be is an openAI logo, bright green, and dripping green ooze down the lid. Text on the poster, in combinations of sans-serif type and brush script reads:
Using Generative AI?
You’re prompting with Hitler!
GenAI is a Fascist Project!
Try using your brain instead
Don’t surrender your creativity to the tech billionaire’s control

Reflecting on Artemis II, I looked up Apollo 17. What I didn't realize is that people were on the moon from December 11 to 14, 1972. My mom was born the next day. She's in the rare group of people that have waited the maximum amount of days for humans to land on the moon again.
