J spotted this moth yesterday morning in the garden. It's a Box moth, whose caterpillars devour Box plants, and I mean devour them. We have one still living. The rest went to blight and this little bugger's children.

Today I found Nixey's Harlequin by A.E. Coppard, a selection of short stories published in 1931, a first edition in the large Charity Store in town. Perhaps not the greatest condition but not bad.

This morning, on my wife's morning walk, she encountered a perfectly calm squirrel no more than a few feet away who consented to a photo shoot.

It's going to be somewhat sunnier today but the front garden includes this.

View of part of the front garden. in the near ground is a red rusty round web of rebar as a sculpture, in the middle of the picture is a raised bed with a clipped dome of privet as a specimen small tree surrounded below by mixed perrennial planting including a fennel which foams up against the base of the trimmed privel.

The surface is gravel with self seeding grasses curling from one bed to another. At the back on the right is half of a large green shed set a metre below the rising ground of the front. The laid grey stone set drive is just visible before it.

On the left is 2' high or so metal long trough of what is currently ended tulips before replanting for the summer.

The sky is cloudy but brtght

What looks like a ruby tailed wasp, about 6mm long. It's a parasitic wasp. I've never seen it before and there were 3 or 4 on the decrepit bug hotel. I imagine they're looking for eggs to infest.

A small winged insect, possibly a ruby tailed wasp on the outside of a bug hotel.

The head and thorax are a bright blue and the tail is a reddy orange. It's a metallic gleam in the sun.

An occasional attempt at a panorama. This is the back garden on the 19th April just after 1 o'clock. This is somewhat heavy on contrast, including fine contrast on edges but the result on the clouds is interesting.

Panorama of the back garden which faces West to North. Though it was very sunny it was also quite windy which the rolling clouds with dark shadows shows.

On the left is the Acer shrub which is nearly 40 years old and below it another one which is only around 5 years younger. In the centre is a long container with tulips, wallflowers and other plants and generally orange in colour , behind at the back is a similar mixed border at the bottom of the grey fence.

On the right is a long set of raised beds with a rhododrndron, fruit trees, clemaitis etc The raised bed is backed by the fence which starts at ground level at next doors garden and the level of our patio.

There are various pots with shrubs, more tulips on gravel.

I haven't found the oldest, which is probably a Tandon Data PAC more polo shirt from about 1985, but I still have the hand painted T shirt from Monterey and still wear it at least once a year. I think my first US visit at DRI in 1990.

Just received a 50 year old record, an EP, by the first band I roadied (carried stuff) for and did some recording from the stage (once from the old Cavern). The band was called Skyfall and the one remaining member I knew was Dave Cunningham, guitarist and writer of most of the 3 tracks.
