My personal and professional advice to those in, near, and even (in some cases) outside of known flood zones is to seriously consider obtaining flood insurance this year, since standard policies usually exclude flooding from storms or oceanic inundation.

Why this very strong El Niño year might be a good time to buy flood insurance in California
The anticipated very strong to historically strong El Niño event will likely increase the odds of a very wet winter California, as well as raise sea levels at the coast and in within inland bays and estuaries. As a result, there will likely be an increased risk of flooding in California during winte

I’m no longer interested in stopping climate change, for a couple of reasons. * It’s too late. If you haven’t noticed, it’s already here. * We’re not going to do a damn thing about climate change until it is forced upon us by circumstances out of our control.

Admirable clarity @science.org
The Trump administration hates academic science funding, full stop. They hate where that money goes, and they hate who it goes to. They want to keep all that money for themselves, to hand out to favored cronies who can help them get elected and to steer yet more money and more power back into their hands.

That’s it. That’s the story

It’s worth noting that Taco Bell identified the source before the FDA did, and promptly pulled it from their stores. The FDA didn’t even name the source until Taylor Farms outed themselves, and hasn’t issued a recall. Basically, Taco Bell is now a more reliable authority than the FDA.

To give yourself options when things go south, you should at least have walkie-talkies for all family members. GMRS is a level up in range, but requires a license (but no training required - just pay a fee). The best option is a ham radio license, but that requires training and certification.

The FCC's GMRS Licensing page is like some really really hard video game. You have to go through a number of levels before you get to the "boss" level (Certification). Out of 100+ attempts, I've reached "boss" level twice before getting an "Access Denied" error. Never made it past "boss" level.
