Pencil underdrawing of one of the two illustrations for chapter 5 of my #DeadBoyDetectives and BBC Sherlock crossover fic A Study in Living. The chapter will get two pics because the boys decided to do unplanned stuff such as getting into the shower together ... archiveofourown.org/works/734000...

Pencil sketch showing Charles and Edwin in a shower from the shoulders up with Edwin standing behind Charles and applying shampoo to his hair and skin. Charles has his eyes closed, Edwin is looking at Charles.

Happy belated Valentine's Day, ILY #DeadBoyDetectives fandom! Have this messy drawing of Edwin & Charles being cute that I forgot to post here yesterday ... I ran out of time to clean it up but I might get to that eventually. #Payneland

Sketchy pencil drawing on pink paper of Charles and Edwin from Dead Boy Detectives, with slight digital touch-ups. Charles is leaning over Edwin's shoulder to kiss Edwin on the cheek, with his arm wrapped around his shoulders and his hands one on top of the other, his eyes almost closed. Edwin is smiling and looking sideways at Charles, one hand touching the arm Charles has wrapped around him.

I can't stop drawing Her. Barbara Lasagna, as played by George Rexstrew in Pismo Beach. (Refrenced a pic of Viola Davis for this, because I saw it and immediately wanted to see Barbara in that dress/pose. 💜)

Rough shaded pencil sketch of drag queen Barbara Lasagna, as played by George Rexstrew, wearing a long sleek ballgown with one shoulder strap, sitting sideways on a director's chair with her name printed across the back, looking back over her shoulder towards you. She has shoulder-length curly hair with a flower pinned at the front. She's smirking just a little bit. (In the foreground there are the round lights of a fancy dressing-room mirror, and counter.) The paper is purple.

I was missing my beloved Barbara last night, so it seemed a good time for a doodle ... Fun fact, @ice-elf.bsky.social and I saw a drag queen perform in this dress recently (minus gloves) and I was completely derailed thinking of Barbara in it, so that was the inspiration. #BarbaraLasagna

Sketchy coloured pencil drawing on a lilac post-it note: a waist-up portrait of drag queen Barbara Lasagna (played by George Rexstrew in the film Pismo Beach). She is wearing a red velvet dress with ruching at the hips and white fur at the turtleneck collar and three-quarter sleeve cuffs. Her hair is in voluminous auburn curls with a big black flower pinned above her forehead, and her face is made up with striking eye shadow and red lipstick. Her eyes are closed as she croons into an old-fashioned microphone that she is cradling in her red gloved hands. She's got a golden-yellow light glow around her.

Wildlife tracking! I'm reposting things I made this past year. If you look closely at the deer tracks you'll see I added the hint that they're double registering (hind foot is stepping into the same spot as front foot).

A six-panel comic titled "Wildlife Tracking Tips". In panel 1, the text says "A white-tailed deer traveled through here," and there are white-tailed deer prints in fresh snow. In panel 2, the text says "An American Red Squirrel came by," and the leap marks of a red squirrel are in the snow. In panel 3, the text says "A Snowshoe Hare passed through," and there are the distinctive fluffy-footed marks from a snowshoe hare jumping across the snow. n panel 4, the text says "The Snowshoe Hare found a sword," and one of the front paw marks in the track has been replaced with a long thin line running alongside the track. In panel 5, the text says "The Snowshoe Hare is dual wielding," and both front paw marks have been replaced with long thin lines. In panel 6, the text says "The Snowshoe Hare tamed a mount, vastly increasing its jumping distance. You should run," and the Snowshoe Hare trail runs into a deer track and disappears.

On Halloween, @ice-elf.bsky.social and I finally started posting our #DeadBoyDetectives Edwin/Chares collab fic, Learning By Heart, after over a year of writing it! And it occurred to me that I should crosspost it here: archiveofourown.org/works/734551... First 3 chapters (of 33!) already up, enjoy!

Screenshot of dark mode AO3 reads:

Learning By Heart.
Ice_Elf, Lundlaeva (Black Crystal Dragon).

Summary: Charles wakes up in the hospital after the incident with his mates and everything is—well, pretty aces actually. His dad’s being nice to him, his mates—former, now—have either been kicked out of school or are staying away from him, and he’s got a new roommate.

Edwin is kind and funny and really clever, and, best of all, he seems to think Charles is pretty great too. So what if he’s sometimes a little bit weird? Charles is still determined to get to know him better.

I'm normally too scared to share art, but I am pleased with these two pieces of the boys and they have been the inspiration for me getting better at portrait drawings! So: Edwin (in pencil) and Charles (in biro). They have fun faces to draw. #SaveDeadBoyDetectives #SuchARomantic

Shaded pencil drawing of Edwin Payne from Dead Boy Detectives (played by George Rexstrew), with crosshatch shading. It's a head and shoulders portrait featuring his crooked bowtie, and he is looking slightly up with a furrowed brow as if surprised to be interrupted.

Shaded biro pen drawing of Charles Rowland from Dead Boy Detectives (played by Jayden Revri), with crosshatch shading. It's a head and shoulders portrait that cuts off at his jacket collar, and he has his eyes closed and a peaceful expression.
