in MA there are 7 regional library networks, but also a state-wide network called "Commonwealth Catalog" and it gets shortened to "ComCat". so, many libraries have cat stamps to include on the ComCat slips. a few libraries collected them this year to make displays of all the different stamps!

I had Halloween storytime at the library yesterday and if this isn't the most iconic picture of me 🥰

I, a white woman with long red hair, am standing at the front of a room, holding open a book ("We're Going on a Ghost Hunt"). I'm dressed in a long purple velvet dress with big, draping sleeves, and a witch hat to match. a stuffed Pete the Cat is to the side of me, sitting on top of the felt board. on the smart board on the other side of me, the words to "five little pumpkins" are written out. in the foreground, facing towards me/away from the camera, two children are hugging as they listen to the story. one is dressed as a firefighter and the other is dressed as Snow White.

these are all the networks I get access to just with my one MA library card (minus Chicago lol... my card renewed right before I moved, so it's still good 😅)

010

fuchsiarascal 🌙📚 @lunarlibraries.com · 22/09/2025

as for if they all come in at once... you can suspend holds in Libby, which helps a TON. you still move up the queue but take them when you're ready once you're at the top.

screenshot of my Libby hold shelf with two suspended holds (I'm saving them for October; one is a book club read)

000

fuchsiarascal 🌙📚 @lunarlibraries.com · 22/09/2025

check if your library network has a collab with other networks for Libby. in MA, my one card can use all the public networks in the state, and that cuts down on wait times significantly. and hoopla is instant, if your library has it (a lot cut it because it's expensive).

I've lived by and worked in fine fee libraries for so long that I forget other places still charge late fees. it's an antiquated policy that restricts the most vulnerable from accessing things they need, and it severely limits circulation stats. more libraries should be fine free!

The President of the United States just essentially declared a war on Chicago because — wait for it! — Black and Brown people live here. This is not normal. This is not okay. And we are going to fucking fight back.

A TruthSocial post from Donald Trump, featuring an AI generated image of him in front of Chicago burning and under invasion with the words “Chipocalypse Now” near him stylized like the poster for the film Apocalypse Now. The text accompanying the post reads “‘I love the smell of deportations in the morning…’ Chicago about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR 🚁🚁🚁”

while I wholeheartedly support using libraries (I'm a librarian!), this isn't the case everywhere. Canada has a program to reimburse authors for checkouts, for example, but the US doesn't (maybe some individual libraries/systems do). They do still get money from libraries having their books though!
