64) Sylvia Townsend Warner - Lolly Willowes A very strange, but charming little book - and pretty apt for spooky season! The tone is uneven and it veers off in some wild directions but I did enjoy it.

63) Ashley Herring Blake - Take A Chance, Sasha Sinclair A new AHB! I always love her sapphic romances but did think the formula was getting a little stale in the last one. But this one has a new setting, a slightly spooky vibe (very fitting for October) and a historical touch that renew the spark.

62) Olivia Dade - World's okayest oracle (reluctantly) seeks demon The previous installment already made me think it's not for me, but this was 0.99 and I wanted to give it a chance. Alas, still a nope. I didn't care for the conspiracy plot nor the supernatural sex scenes, and there's not much else

Okay but The Odyssey is actually rated R. You can agree or disagree with her argument, I have no particular feelings on fictional dog deaths myself, but it checks out because The Odyssey kills a dog AND is rated R.
And then there’s Anne Hathaway, whose film The End of Oak Street concerns a family, a dog, and a very hungry T rex. During promotion for the (12A) film, Hathaway tacitly managed to reassure audiences that the dog wasn’t going to become dino chow, by stating that “I feel like movies that kill dogs should automatically be rated R.”

Of course, however, this leads me to suspect that Anne Hathaway hasn’t actually watched all of her films. Her highest-grossing of the year was Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which features a dog death so absolutely gratuitous that it legitimately borders on slapstick. In short, a dog gets hurled off a

61) Aukelien Weverling - Onder duizend vlaggen A well educated woman, a clever son, the many threats in the world; a volatile recipe. I struggled with this, it's well written but the narrator is deeply unsympathetic and I don't like the whole 'vague and nameless characters' trend.

52) Marc Morris - The Anglo-Saxons I've long been fascinated by the earlier half of the English Middle Ages, so this was right up my alley. As clear as you can make a history where every other principal player is called Æthel-something, I just missed some info on the lives of the common folk.

My pet peeve when reading history books: maps that clearly just take a modern map of Europe and slap historical names on them. And thus this map of Western Europe in the 8th century also shows the distinct contours of the province Flevoland; land that wouldn't be created (literally) until the 1950s.
