My first-ever solo-authored paper is out today (open access!) in @journalrep.bsky.social! What drives Americans to switch their presidential vote based on race over the last 3 elections? I show that it's not general racial warmth, it's changing beliefs about discrimination. (🧵 1/3)

Now more than ever we encounter each other's emotions about politics, on social media and in the news. When do we take strangers' emotional expression seriously, and when do we dismiss it as inappropriate or even insincere? You can find out now in our Cambridge Element!

Very excited to share this project I've been working on with @talbotmandrews.bsky.social and Yanna Krupnikov! How do we respond to the expressed emotions of others online? Across six pre-registered experiments, we find that emotions are generally not taken at face value. Read it now for free online!

Does news about a more diverse Congress change how Americans see democracy? In POQ, Olson et al. find that diversity boosts Democrats’ trust in Congress, has no effect on Republicans, and does not weaken support for democratic norms. Read now: doi.org/10.1093/poq/...

My first, first-author paper is out now in @poqjournal.bsky.social! @nicolehufman.bsky.social, Romeo Gray, and I study how news coverage highlighting a more diverse Congress affects public attitudes. Does emphasizing racial and gender inclusion change how legitimate people think Congress is? (🧵 1/4)

Excited to share a new paper I have out with @nicolehufman.bsky.social and Ryan Vander Wielen! Why do Republican women in Congress violate gendered behavioral expectations and engage in obstructive behaviors when the public overwhelmingly desires compromise? We have answers!
