Alien Trilogy (PS1) (1996) 5/5
Another alien corridor, now with additional synthetic soldiers, big hunky Schwarzenegger-looking guys with smartguns, the muzzle flash illuminating their face and doing some damage to Ripley. The alien ship corridors are full of xenomorphs, like this guy who is in the process of exploding in little green chunks while a torso and head of a captured human is sticking out of the wall, softly whispering "kill me", and if you do, you get their ID card which is like a nice bonus and very considerate of them. One of the facehuggers actually facehugging, a squishy and very pixelated image jumps and covers the screen, obstructing your vision and damaging your health while Ripley throws a couple of curse words at the nasty bugger. Finally, Ripley gets to an Alien Queen (well, actually there's three of them in the entire game), standing in front of her see-through tube-like hatching pod, doing a shout and opening her mouth to reveal another mouth (so hot) while her eggs hatch and release a group of facehuggers at you.

Alien Trilogy (PS1) (1996) 4/5
Dark corridors galore with an alien warrior (which is just a xenomorph with a reddish tint) standing next to a sci-fi trapezoidal door opening while being shot at by Ripley with her smartgun.Ripley gets into the very halls of the alien ship, its corridors covered in black panels and bio-tubes with two transparent, cocoon-like pods on the walls with humanoid creatures inside with tubes coming out of their mouths, possibly showing what was once considered the Space Jockey race, or just a couple of xenomorph teenagers, but either way they're something weird and new that we haven't really seen in the movies afaik.

Oh and Ripley is shooting down an alien with her pulse rifle again. (come on Ripley, improvise a bit, make up some new ways to kill aliens!)A prison morgue full of mortuary racks and a few opened cryo pods. The dark Giger-esque halls of the Bone Ship, now full of corpo commandos in white armor, shaking like that guy in Robocop when ED-209 fills him full of lead.

Alien Trilogy (PS1) (1996) 3/5
A cryosleep chamber inside the colony, very much inspired by the first movie with the door design on the wall and one of the cryo pods opened to release a chestburster (which I've always called a chestbuster, that's a whole different movie) which Ripley promptly shoots in midair.A dark chamber filled with xenomorph eggs, using the pulse rifle to destroy them one by one.An administrative area with white walls and neon lights with Ripley shooting down a Weyland-Yutani soldier, wearing a full Marine gear, in a splash of blood.Another dark room (the game is full of them!) full of displays on the ceiling as well as a central computer terminal from the first movie as facehuggers jump around, being blown up by Ripley's pulse rifle.

Alien Trilogy (PS1) (1996) 2/5
Ripley picking up a shotgun and blowing up an entire row of conveniently placed red barrels in a line of glorious explosions and flying polygons, one of the very satisfying things you can do in this game. The generators are out as the backup power only lights up the colony halls with a dark blue light, creating a creepy and moody atmosphere while Ripley blows up a hole in a xenomorph's chest with a sploodge of green goo coming out.You can't have an Aliens game without the Smartgun, a huge and long rifle carried like a chaingun with both hands, shooting a barrage of homing bullets with a distinct and large star-shaped muzzle flash, mowing down a couple of dog aliens inside a well lit prison bathroom covered in dirty tiles and smudgy mirrors.A pool of neon green water illuminating the dark corridors of the crashed Bone Ship, its Giger-esque walls lit up by the eerie toxic liquid as Ripley and a Weyland-Yutani Commando from the third movie, wearing a full body white armor and helmet, shoot at each other, or rather Ripley is using her flamethrower to heat things up.

Alien Trilogy (PS1) (1996) 1/5
An alternate storyline loosely based on the plot and locations of the Alien movies, you play as Marine Lieutenant Ellen Ripley, investigating a colony on LV-426 where her team gets wiped out so only her and Bishop survive the attack, with the synthetic sort sending her mission briefings while Ripley gets to mow down hordes of xenomorphs (as lovely pre-rendered 2D sprites), like this guy here standing in the middle of a platform in a dark, industrial area full of pipes and girders and metallic paneling, like most of the game's environments.Turns out that the Weyland-Yutani corporation doesn't like you messing around with their aliens so they send out their troopers in green security guard outfits and short military haircuts, standing in a corridor with slanted, orange panels on the walls and neon lights as Ripley uses her M41A Pulse Rifle to blow the head off one of them in a brutal splash of blood. After clearing out the colony, Ripley visits a prison facility inspired by Alien³, with a dark furnace chamber illuminated by an ominous red glow coming from the hot fumes bursting from the grating on the floor and burning up a xenomorph while you help out the process of combustion by adding some lead. (that's how it works, right?)The prison canteen area covered in 70s sci-fi beige walls and floor paneling, with a large kitchen table with cupboards, some monitors and a work desk on the left wall while a kind of orangey Runner aka Dog alien just kinda strolls about on all fours.

Retro Force (PS1) (1999) 5/5
A very cool and dark chamber with a curvet, tube like opening with light pouring in as a giant spider-mech falls from the ceiling and onto the dark metallic floor made out of red LED-lit CPU fans.Paris managing to get back to 2999 just as the city is about to fall and gets another shot at fighting off the aliens, now flying over a street between two apartment buildings, shooting at a giant blue robot shaped like an anthropomorphic rabbit guy with a wide face and two straight raised (but very gay) ears as it swings its thin arms around, trying to hit you.Paris arrives in front of a volcano-shaped building with the night city in the background, straight out of Blade Runner as a blue beam shoots out of the building, housing The Holy Artefact just as Kyati swoops in, controlling another giant mech, looking like a dark robot samurai with full armor (and cute cat heads adorning it), holding a giant sword in one hand and a big gun in another, which is currently being electrocuted by your Ioniser beam.As Kyati's samurai mech gets obliterated, it retreats to its personal robot, a big capsule-shaped torso and head with a painted-on screaming cat face, short arms, red airplane wings on the back and tank treads for legs, looking very annoyed like you just broke its favorite toy ('coz you kinda did).

Flying over a very cool looking hologram of a magical circle covered in orbs and symbols on the edges, many colorful lights and neuron-like links with a huge central planet as well as other orbiting spheres, possibly showing the solar system of this alien world, displayed in a very Final Fantasy fashion.Flying over the night streets of The City, the hometown of the Retro Force as they're trying to push back the alien invasion, flying past a tall green neon sign with a smiling stick figure guy and the word MOO below him.And here's our evil, scheming antagonist, a comparatively smallish robot cat called Kyati, made out of yellow metal with a very angry face and a big meow, with red gloves and boots and a smiling white face of a cat on its torso, showing its little teeth, floating above the snowy cliffs under a giant UFO as it beams down a huge blue Mechwarrior-like mech, a bipedal robot with a big torso and missile launchers for hands, just as Kyati flies with its booster boots into the mech's cockpit.Kyati is defeated but not for long as it opens a hypnotically swirling portal, taking everyone into the far past.

Retro Force (PS1) (1999) 3/5
A boss fight in a dark rocky area as Paris approaches a flat, horizontal flying vehicle with three vertical fins in the middle and the two ends, exchanging shots as they fight between two rushing waterfalls.A dark corridor with snake ornaments and carved grotesques on the walls, guarded by two big turrets covered in red force fields, so you have to destroy the central generator between them to power the shields down and then take care of the tiresome two.As your mission takes you back in time through different ages, you fly above an ancient Greek temple as a row of explosions light up the skies.Another dragonfly boss floating over a diamond-shaped pool of green goo in a high-tech base, covered in turrets, shield generators as you throw one of the screen clearing bombs, creating a huge orange blast.

The snowy mountains create a wall of frozen rock as a giant boss enemy flies in from above, looking like some kind of spiky samurai kabuto helmet with those angular flat horns like Galactus' helm from them Marvel comics, a metallic monstrosity meant to mangle your machine into mincemeat.Shooting some electric Ioniser beams at an almost cockroach looking tank boss with a big turret, accompanied by two red tank guys.

The game also uncommonly uses all the four face buttons to shoot your main weapon, drop bombs Xevious style, shoot depleting weapons like missiles or side shots as well as a screen clearing explosion. Interestingly, it also uses L1 and L2 to swap between a higher and lower altitude, so you can actually shoot the buildings and enemies on the ground, with a bit of a cooldown between altitude swaps.A volcanic grotto with an adorable and giant chunky robot with a big round torso, thin legs and wings full of rockets as well as transparent insect wings in the back, with the main pièce de résistance being its two big googly eyes, straight out of an N64 game made by Rare.Arriving at a temple plateau with a big ring-like structure and two guardian robots, shaped like giant dragonflies, shooting out giant double fireballs at you as they buzz around. The boss health bar transforms from showing ENEMY to spelling out ENEMIES when there's more than one, a neat little touch.

Retro Force (PS1) (1999) 1/5
A Europe exclusive, Psygnosis developed, stylish vertical STG or shoot'em up if you will, starring the eponymous Retro Force - four hero pilots with cool Y2K designs, trying to retrieve The Holy Artefact, a thingamajig that powers their city, stolen by an evil robotic cat called Kyati with his alien armada, who is hellbent on fulfilling some kind of apocalyptic prophecy as the 2999 Millennial Celebrations are just starting.

The leader of the Retro Force, one fantastically named Paris Tetsuo, a girl with short black hair and a shiny blue pilot suit with a cat logo on it, pilots a cute blue spaceship, currently flying over an archipelago at night, with the green meadows and trees along with the gray seas being covered in colorful turrets, towers and spaceships, making the game look like a cool RTS or something. The game mixes things up with three weapons, the purple Pulser, shooting one powerful shot at a time, the Fanfire, shooting a barrage of red photon shots in a horizontal line, and the Ioniser, a blue electric beam with a long reach, used right now as Paris flies over a frozen landscape with spiky rocks and green glowing crystals, with two squads of sort-of-Tie-Fighter enemies with evil grinning faces on their hull.Paris shooting down one of the floating mines hovering over a fiery volcano area, increasing the heat in an already toasty situation.Flying over some rocky cliffs and grassy hills, just past an ancient building with a tall lighthouse, shooting out a green beam of light.

Every level begins with a front closeup of Frogger, showing his triangular eyes and dump smiley face, hyping himself before jumping in front of a truck because I'm not that great at the game. 👀Another hacked cam angle showing a lovely autumn forest with Frogger standing on a thick branch in front of a hanging wooden bridge as very low poly and very cute owls and squirrels zoom past the smiling frog.A hacked cam POV behind hour hoppy hero, showing what it would look like if Frogger was more like Gears of War with an over the shoulder camera, looking at the colorful low poly and mostly untextured cars and trucks zipping across the highway.A dusty canyon with Frogger standing on the starting position marked with a bullseye, which is kinda fitting as a herd of low poly buffalo rushing through.

Frogger (PS1) (1997) 2/3
A spooky and sparkly frozen river with some glowing fireflies that Frogger can slurp up as well a couple of spiders as big as frog guy here.A nasty sewer flooded with some kind of purple water with floating oil cans and sludge covered pipes criss crossing over it as Frogger hops around, trying to find the right path to rescue his orange and red frog friends who, I gotta say, are very chill and passive about this whole situation and looks like they're not doing anything to help out or save themselves just because this famous guy is around so somehow he's obligated to rescue them for whatever... you know what, it's not important.Frog guy standing on the shore of a dark blue river full of yawning alligators, or that's what he thinks, not realizing they're trying to eat him but they're stuck, like so many of us, in their lane, repeating the same behavior, redoing the same mistakes, when all they ever wanted was to munch of some frog.Frogger standing in front of a big temple doorway with a giant stone statue of a frog that looks surprisingly like him.

Now, I know some of you will say that it's very froggist of me to just assume it's the same frog because all frogs look the same to me but I'm pretty sure all them polygons are in the same place and shape, and I know my polygons, alright!?

You know what, I just looked up a longplay and it turns out you enter them temple by collecting all the hidden golden frogs so it's probably one of them as a giant statue. So I apologize, it seems I was a froggist all along.

Frogger (PS1) (1997) 1/3
Frogger's back in full 3D and he's learned some new moves like a croak, a big hop and how to properly use his tongue (it's important).

The game also has a slightly more dynamic camera when the need arises, as well as the ability to rotate the view by 90 degrees (blasphemous). It starts with the classic level, hopping across the busy highway, dodging cars and trucks and arriving at a river with groups of turtles that sneakily sink into the water just to mess with you, as well as lots of tree trunks, creating temporary moving platforms between you and your colorful froggy friends that explode in a hundred little triangles when you hop on them to "rescue" them, but we all know Frogger is really an immortal frog from the clan McFrog, and ultimately there can be only one!Frog guy shown here hopping over some metallic plates forming a bridge over a lava pit with flaming rocks flying over the platform.Turns out Frogger is surprisingly light, being able to hop on clouds, the road and houses visible below. He's waiting for a big beaked bird to fly past so he can hop onto its back and resume his journ... oh wait, he's dead isn't he... That's why he's able to hop on clouds... he's in frog heaven.A zoomed out hacked camera of Big Boulder Alley, a sandy canyon level that mostly consists of a serpentine path going up a cliff while low-poly boulders keep rolling down like some kinda Jump Man level, though this here is a Jump Frog.

Contra: Legacy of War (PS1) (1996) 4/4
The game also offers four playable characters, with Tasha here, an intergalactic mercenary made of chromed metal, wearing a red top and brown shorts, wielding a green gun as she stands in front of a large green wall with turrets and a red blinking glass eye in a very Contra fashion.

I've used a hacked cam here to bring the camera to the back of the characters, making it look like a more modern third person shooter (albeit with a very pixelated 2D character), showing a different perspective of what the game might look like.A sepia brownish cobblestone paved street with the two other selectable characters, the shiny purple robot CD-288, the hulking Robocop-Samus hybrid with a gun for a hand, and the more humanoid gray xenomorph guy called Bubba, while a couple of enemy soldiers approach from the other end of the street. As you defeat the evil guy, you are pulled into the dark virtual reality slash mind of Colonel Bassad, his creepy green face wobbling in the background of a pitch-black void as you walk on a digital grid, often forming letters and words before a boss fight like this cyberspace spider-bot with a turret on top. The words spell out the unsettling message "COME WITH ME TO HE HELL DAMNED". Hardcore dude!

I shouldn't forget to mention that this game was developed by Novotrade (later called Appaloosa Interactive like at the time of developing this game). They're of course the Hungarian dev team most well known for making the Ecco the Dolphin games as well as a number of C64, Amiga and SEGA Genesis games, so the home computer and demoscene roots, as well as the Genesis vibes are extremely visible here in some of the character pixel art and texture work.

Be sure to check out Moleman 4: Longplay, a documentary talking about the Hungarian scene in the 80s and the developers and games that came out of that highly-technical and talented pool of programmers and artists (and also just check out the entire Moleman series of documentaries, good stuff!)Finally, Ray arrives at the small brown planet full of red wormy veins on its fleshy brown surface, jumping around in low gravity as he shoots down a bunch of snakey plant monsters and fly traps, hopefully defeating the alien menace once and for all. (hint, he did not)

Contra: Legacy of War (PS1) (1996) 3/4
Ray enters a hut in the jungle and is greeted with a bar with some bar stools (one is fallen over on the side) and two arcade machines with the words ARCADE CLASSIC displayed on their monitors. The first arcade game is Pac Tank, as the name implies, it's a Pac-Man clone with a maze filled with green, legally distinct orbs, but this time you're driving a tank, which can drive backwards and also has to pause every time you want to turn to a different direction.

As a tank, you also have the power to shoot (I know, controversial) as the maze has a few barricades you can destroy as well as enemy tanks that you can shoot. The second game is straight up Gyruss, flying through a starfield, rotating your spaceship on the edges of the screen as formations of bug-like enemies fly in.A funny moment ensues when you exit the arcade hut as a squad of enemies have just been waiting outside to ambush you, while honestly being very polite to let you play a few games and then try to kill you, which is nice.

Ray doesn't think that's nice and starts shooting at them.

Contra: Legacy of War (PS1) (1996) 2/4
Ray encounters a giant turtle robot in the jungle, its shell filled with tubes and a spine-like structure while its neck elongates and gets its purple-eyed head closer as it starts breathing fire at our hero. The game is very brownish-bronze a lot of the time, reminding me a bit of Quake's palette, with this long tunnel with lots of high-tech arches and doodads housing a giant scorpion monster with two adorable black eyes, walking on the walls and ceiling as Ray shoots his pew pew.The tunnel leads to a bulkhead door on an ancient stone wall as eggs star falling from the ceiling, spawning little wormy monsters and then a huge green mosquito with yellow eyes and a sharp red stinger descends as well, looking dang angry.Ray's mission seems more dangerous than anticipated as he's now falling down a very deep and long hole, its walls filled with tubes and grates as a big floating green probe droid starts falling as well, matching your speed just as a courtesy while his robo hands start shootin' at ya.

Contra: Legacy of War (PS1) (1996) 1/4
A muscly soldier with a backpack and green camo pants stands, or rather hovers on the construction beams next to a river of lava, separating him (and a lone enemy soldier that's just watching in awe at the guy floating on this non-platform) and the other side, a raised platform partially hiding the misty jungles and beautiful orange sunset skies, as a huge robotic drone flies in.

The soldier's name: Ray Poward. The mission? Stop Colonel Bassad and his army of soldiers, mutants, aliens and alien mutant soldiers in this first attempt at thrusting the Contra series into the third dimension, with beautiful 2D pixel art characters and snazzy textures with 3D environments and bosses. It didn't work out quite that well, but the game is still pretty to look at.Mr. Poward powars through the deep jungle, sinking his boots into both mud and fern as he walks past alien installations and ancient ruins with a small enemy tank with a turret blasting fire at our boy Ray.Another mission takes Roy on a blue sci-fi speedboat, driving around a lake until he arrives at a pile of junk that starts hovering and assembles into some kind of robot made out of tubes, truck tires and various radiators. This mission gets more bizarre as time goes on as Ray enters a dark chamber with a floating brain and eyes, defended by a force field made out of creepy skull faces lit up in rainbow colors, in an annoying and long battle of the bouncing brain playing hard to kill.

Mario Kart 64 (N64) (1997) 1/3
Princess Peach spending 1% of her generational wealth into turning her entire world into various race tracks is exactly the kind of issue Mushroom Kingdom has to deal with on a daily basis.

Peach invites her friends and keeping her enemies closer to a racetravaganza and the winner might even get a kiss on the cheek (except Mario... fuck that guy).

Speaking of that guy, Mario sits at the comfortable 8th place as all the racers wait at the start line to begin the race through the Luigi Raceway, a lovely grassy area with trees and puffy white clouds in the bright blue skies, adding salt to injury that his brother's racetrack is the first in the game.Speaking of the enviously green Luigi, him and his friends DK and Yoshi are breaking all traffic regulations as they do a tight left turn on Toad's Turnpike past some cars and trucks.Princess Peach being a bit of a shit racer as she's struggling in 4th place, driving over a long suspended wooden bridge next to a waterfall in D.K.'s Jungle Parkway, going into a cave as the aforementioned Donkey Kong flashes in all the rainbow colors and is about to bump Peach off the bridge.

Welp, there goes all the funding for the championship. The wintery nights of the Frappe Snowland are covering all the racers in a gentle snowfall as they do a right turn through some curvy roads, approaching a giant snowy statue of Yoshi in the distance, a monument to his cold, dead heart and the numerous sacrifices he mlemmed with his long, sensual tongue.

Also known as Kart Race Kimete wa Drift! and WaiWai Kart for its PS3/PSP re-release, this one's a pretty budget-feelin' kart racer with pre-rendered 2D characters on 3D race tracks, like our hero Joe in his silver go-kart, wearing an orange helmet with a red stripe, racing through a nice race track surrounded by grass mowed in brighter and darker stripes, just about the pass the checkpoint near the crowd stands and yonder towards a jumbotron display showing the race, glistening under the SEGA-blue skies and puffy clouds made out of foam balls.Eri is a little blonde girl in a red winter coat and hoodie, kinda looking like Kenny from South Park seen from the back, riding on a basket with wheels and joined by her trusty pal penguin Tobi.

They're racing through a cold, snowy racetrack with a big drowsy polar bear sitting on a raised frozen platform with some of his penguin friends, all pre-rendered in a very cute style. The pirate captain called Captain, wearing a red captain suit and hat befitting a pirate captain called Captain, riding a powder cannon with three small boosters in the back and driving on a series of grassy islands with palm trees, aiming towards a wooden bridge and a pirate ship shooting cannon balls at this cannon riding captain Captain.Gigi the bushy-haired caveman riding a chunk of meat with the bone protruding from the back, and four wheels stuck on it with smaller bones, with a missed opportunity to call his vehicle the Bonermobile, driving on the underwater sea bed as he approaches a Japanese looking castle surrounded by red walls.

The Flintstones: Bedrock Bowling 3/4
A bonus level in Barney's backyard with a giant round drained pool, rolling past his house and on the rim of the pool, collecting purple crystals and giant bowling pins as Fred's wife Wilma relaxes on a lawn chair. Turns out that Barney is the alpha chud in this relationship and Fred was the cuck all along.Pebbles reaching the finish line on the shore of the ocean near some palm trees, eyes wide open, staring down and shrugging with her little baby hands like "the fuck is this shit?"Another bonus level where Barney gets his comeuppance as he rides the Water Buffalo Lodge, a round trench arena with a full crowd in the rafters and an actual buffalo chasing the little blonde bastard, pushing his rocky bowl with Barney looking absolutely terrified.Fred rolls down the snakey, swirling alien tracks of Gazoo's Asteroid, with another very Amiga-coded neon green to blue gradient in the background and Gazoo's big floating head in a bubble, looking at Fred's death defying stunts.

The Flintstones: Bedrock Bowling 2/4
Barney rolling through a prehistoric highway with a small van or bus driving past on the right side, looking like it's made of cardboard, and I'm guessing an apartment building on the left that looks like a square rock with holes carved in, feeling like some sort of spider mutants are just about to start crawling out of them.

The game has pretty low draw distance but most of the levels have at least some nice gradient colors for the backgrounds, while this one has just the poopiest of brown colors, and with all the gnarly textures covering the surfaces, it looks like some artsy modern horror indie game with deliberately low effort graphics and an unsettling atmosphere.Pebbles rolling over a flimsy wooden bridge past a waterfall, some shrubs and a palm tree as she enters the underground river cave.Dino the pink pet dinosaur flying off a cliff and into a river of lava, with shriveled trees arching over the flowing torrent of hell as the level struggles to materialize in front of him, just showing an amazing red to yellow gradient, straight out of an Amiga game.Barney rolling around the tar pits and desecrating the spinal cord and rib cage of some giant dinosaur remains, all for the love of the sport.

The Flintstones: Bedrock Bowling 1/4
Mr. Slate, Fred's boss is breaking his stones again (giggidy), telling him that he has to finish digging a trench by tomorrow morning or he's fired, while Barney rolls along and tells Fred they have to practice for the bowling tournament.

Fred wishes that he could somehow work and bowl at the same time and a tiny floating green alien guy with a big helmet pops in, called the Great Gazoo, snaps his fingers and creates numerous trenches and canyons, populating them with gems and bowling pins, and gives Fred a hollowed out half-bowl to sit in as he slides down the levels, hitting sparsely placed bowling pins and other obstacles in something that has almost nothing to do with bowling.

Here we have Fred sliding down the neck of a big orange dinosaur as he approaches the finish flag.Fred and Barney, as the irresponsible fathers that they are, let their infant children take a roll down the dangerous trenches, with Pebbles here goo-gooing and ga-gaaing to the right towards a big purple flower and past a small pond with a geyser and a cute pink elephant that's just having a nice shower.Barney rolls into the boney mouth of a giant dinosaur skeleton with its spine and ribs visible yonder.Bamm-Bamm sliding through the Crystal Caves and into a dimly lit chamber with several small pockets of glowing green goo, creating an eerie atmosphere while bowling pins and purple crystals float all willy nilly around the level.

Dinomaster Party (PS1) (2002)
A colorful little party game with cute baby dinosaurs and a horrifying story about the extinction of the dinosaurs, with only a few eggs surviving so the baby dinos need to fight in a series of mini-games to determine who will be the new top honcho (well, I say "series", but there's only four, so technically I'm correct, and that's the best kind of correct), all happening on a 7 by 7 square grid.

Here we have Dinosquare, with the goal to connect one side of the board to the other, whether creating a straight line or a larger area, and get some points. The 2D drawn character portraits fit the 3D models pretty well with the baby T-Rex having a smug smile with a squinting side eye.The Meteor Shower mini-game is set on a backdrop of a purple volcano with three caves occupying a square on the board, so the catch is to hide inside one of the caves while a hot meteor falls down and kills the one cute baby dino that didn't manage to hide in time.

This is a game for little children. Some rocky canyons with little patches of grass are the stage of Rockpush, another mini-game where round yellow rocks fall onto the board and you can kick them around to hit your opponents, knocking them off, for here can be only one!The Free for All stage inside a cave filled with yellow hot lava, and as the name suggests, you just punch each other and push the little baby dinosaurs into the scorching hell pit, saving them the pain of living in this doomed world where their species are pretty much extinct already, letting them fade away into myth and legend.

You can also jump to pick up some apples and pieces of meat to regain your health!

One of the endings is pretty amazing, starting with a handy blackboard with some words written in chalk, saying "Ending -> No. 1 - Take 3".The chalkboard moves to reveal the director, a cool 90s guy with shades, white shirt and jeans, kneeling on a moving crane platform with a film camera as he moves away to show that they've been filming on a blue screen background, with the Sphinx lady standing in front of it. various equipment lay around with the film crew looking at monitors and operating all the equipment. The director says it's a wrap and that everyone should line up for a group photo as a few of the actors walk past a big matte painting of a blue cave, their masks taken off to reveal that the skeletons and fish people were all actors. The game ends with a big group photo, showing all the bosses and various regular enemies gathered together.

One of the paths takes you to a frozen cave as you stand in front of an ornate chest with a big red jewel. As the chest opens, a skeleton pops up with his hands on his hand, cackling and mocking you as the ground beneath you crumbles and takes you to an underground river. One of the boss fights takes you to a crumbling chamber with ancient pillars and a small alcove with a burning pot of fire, with Medusa rising from the ground, holding a scepter and throwing living snakes out of her snakey hair.

It's worth mentioning that most of the enemies in the game are 2D sprites, beautifully photographed and stop-motion animated puppets, clay models and apparently actors in suits, looking absolutely fantastic, though it's a shame that most of them are very pixelated. The underground river takes you swimming through a dark cave as many cute rats with little pink toes, ears and tails jump at you, thirsting for blood.Another adventure takes you to a lake surrounded by cliffs and a lovely waterfall, with a few crumbling pillars on the edge of the cliffs, while a multi-headed Hydra rises from the water, opening its maw with big sharp teeth.

The intro shows a 3D model of our hero in a blue shirt with chest pockets, rolled up sleeves, holding a shotgun but never showing his head, possibly because you're just too damn handsome. The title screen with a photoshop of blue cloudy skies over some canyons, a rotating globe of our blue planet and the name Crypt Killer, with the letters going down a slope and up a hill in a curved path with a gradient from red to yellow, looking like a 3rd grader just discovered Adobe Illustrator.

Personally, I'm a fan of the original, Japanese name for this game - Henry Explorers. It really shows that this is an arcade game port since it has a countdown screen, waiting for one or two players to join in. The background is filled with a repeating pattern of the game's logo while a beautiful blonde woman swooshes her hair, saying "Crypt Raiders wanted!"As you begin the game, you stand before a tall green wooden door as Galazon, "the spirit of travels", appears before you as a bald man's floating head with slightly wonky eyes, saying that he will observe your exploits and occasionally ask you to choose a path, leading you to treasures unknown.

A fabulous arcade light gun shooter that takes you on adventures all around the world in search for the "Eyes of Guidance", blue and red eye-shaped jewels that hold the secret of an ancient civilization and more importantly, their untold riches that you could plunder as a "crypt raider", legally distinct from raiders of other types.

You can choose which of the six areas you start with first and choose you way through several branching paths, leading to a guardian holding one of the jewels.

Might as well start at the first level, a dense forest under the sunset skies and very low draw distance as two blue gargoyles descend from the sky while you swiftly dispose of the one on the left, blowing it up into bloody pieces with your shotgun.A sunken dungeon glistening under the clean blue water as green scaly creatures swim around, throwing daggers at you.A dark crypt (one of many) filled with piles of skulls next to some mine shaft entrances with many living skeletons coming out and throwing their boners at you.An ancient Egyptian tomb with a wall of sarcophagi lined up, opening up to reveal the mummies inside, throwing pieces of cloth at you with one of them looking like it's resting on the mummy's shoulder, like it's just coming out of the shower.

It turns out these are clown sarcophagi, containing multitudes of mummies, and they JUST. KEEP. COMING. OUT!

Blockids (PS1) (1996)
A simple Breakout clone with colorful (and might I say, nicely animated) characters, the addition of various camera angles to show off that 3D magic and the ability to make the ball jump whenever you want, creating some depth to the ways you approach the destruction of the colorful stacked blocks.

The board is made out of gray tiles with a ornate border with golden squiggly vines and creepy eyes. The blocks themselves also have similar eye shapes, making the whole thing a little creepy, though the pre-rendered Bryce-style backgrounds with generated terrain and blue skies make the game feel more new age and Y2K.

Here we have a lovely redhead mermaid just sitting and looking kinda confused at her opponent, a floaty, Boo-like ghost with a black witch's hat, looking startled, his body getting all fuzzy and spiky and his eyes and mouth becoming just creepy void holes as the pink ball bounces off the walls while the camera is untraditionally very low and following said ball in a more dynamic view of the game.A wizard elf with green hair, long pointy ears, a blue hat with a metallic Naruto plate, a blue coat and big cartoony clown shoes holds a wizard's cane and smiling at our boy ghost witch as he's squishing his head on the floor while little cherubs float around his head.

The camera shows the game board from almost directly above, showing off the towering stacks of blocks covered in the same creepy eye texture in various bright colors.A clockwork sphinx fights our boy ghost guy (he's the first opponent in the game so it's hard to get to other characters without playing through dozens and dozens of levels) on the default, kinda pinball-style view of the board, having a decent view of the stacked blocks arranged into a pyramid, to make the robo-sphinx feel more at home.A cute girl with black hair, big middle split bangs and a braid with a red bow on the end, wearing a long red shirt and sandals, smiling at a cute red dragon raising his head to growl and blow some fire.

This is a boss fight level (and all the boss fights look the same so you'll be seeing this a lot) where the board turns into a hellish goo of lava or tomato sauce with a glowing fiery pentagram in the upper center where an adorable pink low-poly dragon with no textures, just vertex colors is rotating in the center of the pentagram and growling while little 3D ghost guys float around him, forming a shield so there's no blocks, just ghosts and the dragon that you have to hit with your ball.
