Incidentally, online trolling does actually eventually bleed into people actually getting-fucken-kicked-in. Just so you know.

Still getting clobbered out here on the streets by hate-mobs. The neighbourhoods really let itself go, huh?

The Kaepernick ordeal demonstrated that it is the whole NFL or 99% of it. "If a Nazi is sitting at the table, and ten others are sitting there chatting with him, you have eleven Nazis at the table"

Oldie but goodie: Don't listen to users (watch them!). I can’t count the number of times I had to explain this to well-meaning engineers, who thought the way to good UX was asking users what they prefer. www.nngroup.com/articles/fir...

First Rule of Usability? Don't Listen to Users
For good UX, watch what users do, not what they say. Self-reported claims and speculations about future behavior are unreliable. Users do not know what they want.

My hammer went rogue and started smashing people's heads in! There was nothing I could do. I tried to stop it, but my arm kept swinging it at people. It isn't my fault! It is the hammer's. This is very dangerous. Someone should regulate hammers. (This is a post about AI safety and liability.)

positive reframing is such a nice tool when you think "I feel like I'm drowning and one or two hard emails away from the burnout knocking me out of commission" you can instead think "honestly I can't believe my nervous system is even functioning at all with all the nonstop horrors lately"

Not been hospitalised yet tho, so that's a positive. Also the walk/cycle into work this morning was really nice, and life's being kind in plenty of little ways.

Here's a better headline for BBC News: IN A LIKELY MARKETING STUNT, OPENAI LAUNCHED A CYBER ATTACK AGAINST HUGGING FACE Everyone using algorithms is responsible for what is done with them. "AI" didn't do this. OpenAI, the company, did this. www.bbc.com/news/article...

It is one of the first publicly disclosed cyber-attacks carried out by AI without direct human involvement.

AI is not making open source better. It's not adding to the commons. It's eating projects and maintainers alive and digesting their work into incomprehensible, homogenous goo.

Allow me to be cautiously optimistic that there might be a warmer GitHub environment somewhere over the other side of raising the social cost to disruptive users.

So… I’m well aware that encode needs to catch up on the communication front and I’m working on that. In the interim we could really do with a little more funding to help through a bit of a transitional period. A seasons conference budget would be dearly appreciated / impactful right now.

Some of us would like to work on meaningful projects, together with friends and colleagues. There’s a weird neuroses in OSS land where that gets framed as “status games”.
