Artists, a group famously uncaring about the properties of their chosen medium/media of course

Definitely a situation where the level of noise shot way up while the caring people are still there (hi!)

Allegedly, LLMs have enabled hobbyists to build and improve tons of "media management" tools in the last year that can populate these self-hosted servers. You should not look up these tools, and certainly not set them up with friends.

From personal experience, Cushion has localized invoices (no CSS, though you could ask for it!), and Jonnie is nice! cushionapp.com

You’ll miss publishers when they’re gone
Ever since Piccalilli started to get traction, I’ve always seen CSS-Tricks, Smashing Magazine and A List Apart (among others) as peers. We all help each other behind the scenes and importantly, back each other. When CSS-Tricks was initially acquired by DigitalOcean, I was really happy for Chris. The work that he’d put into that publication […]

Same for me! Lots of my projects are now Kirby sites, for which vanilla CSS + JS are almost always enough.

I keep using some form of this metaphor when talking about why I believe in ML for lots of tasks, but I also think that LLMs are built on a false promise. louis-andre.net/journal/you-...

If you don't mind a bit of command line, there's Restic. It backs up directories to pretty much any storage you can think of. Look at Backrest if you'd rather have an interface with it. I use it with Backblaze's B2 for storage, which comes to ~1$ every two months currently.

This level of naming is a map of colour use, not a list of tokens. I see one possibly useful exception: An app that has deep theming options might want explicit separation, where there's a layer applying theme colours to "slots" in components. The map pattern becomes relevant then.

if you learn a skill or start a new hobby, it makes you a better person, not worse. nobody ever gets into calligraphy and immediately starts screeching that typefaces are useless and only the quill shall prosper. there is no "woodworking psychosis" nobody thinks they're dating their kettlebell

I get a lot of “but it’s business people making programmers do this” replies, implying that software engineers are innocent. That’s the software engineers who stole the term “engineer” from another profession that has very strict certification requirements & mandatory ethics classes.
