I get time on it. I don't have space in a structure that would cope with the weight.

I took the habit of brewing tea in mine and it also seem to come out stronger, even if the bottle is bigger than a mug. Longer infusion at higher temp.

I know Civilization 4 is really good, but the soundtrack is even better? Recording of period music by the Vienna Philharmonic? John Adams? I have no idea what the music budget was.

for fucking REAL. the depth of trauma for those undiagnosed with ADHD is real. not just the way we feel like we're constantly failing (because everyone is telling us we are) but not understanding WHY because we have no context to understand other people aren't struggling with the things we are.

I can only second this. If you are in Glasgow, visit Category Is. It's much more than a bookshop. It's a community hub, a place of active resistance, and a big fucking hug.

The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

I have given up on English people being ok about other countries. White English culture is, at large, supremacist.

At any rate, I've taken the drastic step of shifting to devedit/redraft and layout. This was really effective and I can finally see a way out, and a game being made. My feet are on the next rung. I don't want to jump down, so the only way is up.

I am, without realising, writing an ambitious game about accomplishing an ambitious goal and struggling with it for years, and I've been struggling with it for years. The game about the struggle lies in the struggle about the game.

Paolo of Lost Pages @lostpages.co.uk · 25/09/2026
And that's why this little game has been stuck in development for years. Because getting good is hard, ambitious endeavours are hard, writing short content is hard, mixing occult and bathos is hard. Climbing the Ladder is hard and frustrating and takes time and a lot of dedication.

Paolo of Lost Pages @lostpages.co.uk · 25/09/2026
There are also other technical difficulties. Each area/encounter/paragraph is about 5 lines long and has both a bit of world building and some game challenge and often a boon to discover. Brevity and variety don't easily go hand in hand, especially if you need dozens of these encounters.

Paolo of Lost Pages @lostpages.co.uk · 25/09/2026
It is also ambitious in many ways. can be played solo, it can be played with 20 people at the table. The worst part of it is that it does not need an arc, and the rules are hard to write because I set a high standard for myself. High ambition plus high standards make for high frustration.

It is also ambitious in many ways. can be played solo, it can be played with 20 people at the table. The worst part of it is that it's also my first solo game, and I'm struggling with both writing the rules and giving it a satisfying arc.

Switching between occult text and being a useless newb wizard apprentice is necessary to set the tone. You are not good but are trying to ascend. The Ladder to Leave the World Behind has only nine rungs, how hard can it be? Each Rung is a quest that could take years of time, so, yeah, it's hard.

Sorcery Shenanigans has been in development for years and had great playtest feedback, but the specific way its words sucks is infuriating. It's an occult text on discovering the mysteries of the world. It's also full of bathos and its comedy is full of slapstick because of PC incompetence.

Some wizards need some good manners slapped right into their stupid face.
A Simple Weave:
Step 1 : Plea on the Equinox Threshold ☐
The Monastery of Holy Patience opens its gate on the Fall Equinox, for one day. Only a few are judged worthy to work its looms. To be admitted, make your plea in front of the High Webster, and check Charisma+Weaving:
›	0-1: you are not worthy. You can try again next year.
›	2+: you are admitted in the Monastery, and allowed at the loom.
›	Shenanigans: you disrespect the High Webster, who regretfully schools you publicly and loudly by slapping some good manners right in your face. Take 1d6 wounds. You can try again next year, but please be respectful.

I'm not sure to be honest, not that I think about it. There's definitely more chances to include a single element to it, a weirding point, not unlike fantastical realism, but more towards the uncanny.
