SaaS companies driven by sales requests lost one of the load bearing product bloat guardrails. Not many companies can say no when they don't have "it's going to take a long time" as an excuse.

AI makes doing "everything" less costly. So teams without product vision and discipline are going to produce bloatware.

Yeah it's easy to update as we go and the PRs in the AI config repo act as codifiers for our standards and our development practices.

We have a separate repo that stores team wide skills that we've built on over time. It started with claude'skill builder where we had it go through our git pr history and find what we usually comment on.

We use a local auditing skill before PR submission, then PRs are run through final CI/linting.

The "THLORPP" sound as it exited the container is a core audio memory.

I've done these cold research outreaches before, but they always include a "I will pay for your time at whatever rate you think is fair" clause. I've gotten many positive responses, and to date, no one has ever actually asked to be paid. Funny how far a little professional respect can go.

Music, without its connection to the human(s) that made it, is just noise. It is devoid of anything valuable.

Clearest indication yet that Apple is cooked. They've completely lost their internal understanding of what makes their products great.

One more thought: the Democrats need to take advantage of this. It barely seems to be penetrating their messaging right now, but if they don't go in like Gingrich did in '94 with the promise of cleaning house, then the angry people will turn on them so quick and blame them for everything.

The dude famously obsessed with getting little details right? I think there's a better than 50% chance he would be banned in Apple development.

I believe they were referring to irresponsible development practices feeding the money furnace vis a vis the frontier AI companies, not the person building the Alzheimer's app.

I'm free. Is this a zoom meeting? I haven't updated Teams in a while so please don't say it's Teams.

Currently running an analysis of our codebase pre and post AI trying to quantify or at least surface the areas where we've let the AI dilute or change our previous implicit or explicit standards. Hoping to automate the analysis to catch degradations before they become too widespread.

Ah. What I've seen is that even with extra-diligent devs with opinionated code bases, AI code tends toward high entropy both in code/architecture decisions and in output. Like putting a fuzzy lens on a sharp image. Have to decide level of fidelity needed relative to the benefits of higher velo.

@chrispappasnh.bsky.social stuff like this is so needed and is the type of creative legislation NH can get behind.

Not possible. Sometimes there's a happy medium where you can set controls that mitigate the worst of the slop and keep humans in the loop for the rest. You won't go as fast as the maximalists, but you'll be safer. Bigger question is, do you genuinely need/want faster development?

Eventually her potential has to come in contact with reality, and I'd much rather see that happen in this moment than in some hand-wavy future where a Latina millennial isn't somehow abrasive to American misogyny.

Bryan Marble @lostmahbles.com · 23/09/2026
At some point there's a floor, right? The only way this doesn't keep going down is if he materially changes his approach to the reality and we all know that ain't happening.

Dems should publicly come out and say, we are not going to waste our time fighting this, we're focused on the economy. BUT. Here's the exact text of the bill that will be passed Day 1 that removes his name/stink from everything that he touched.

This is 100% the outcome. Without those pesky engineers thinking slowly, they won't be able to tell me I need to prioritize and consider the costs of building.

In Obamacare 2.0 I want it to be illegal to use a non-public algorithm to make coverage decisions. Can't even imagine the horrendous hard coded rules these companies are using. Someone wrote that code, and if I'm going to die because of its output, I should have the right to audit it.

Also your SaaS has a higher bar because you're also competing against someone building the app internally because they can tailor it to their specific process instead of changing their workflow to match your tool.

Bryan Marble @lostmahbles.com · 18/09/2026
I find codex/chatgpt to be easier to work with but is much more likely to produce code that doesn't match your codebase's established conventions/style. Faster to develop, slower to get through PR.

Bryan Marble @lostmahbles.com · 18/09/2026
It's incredible for building bespoke, doesn't need to be production ready internal/personal apps. Building an actual SaaS or software product people will pay for and rely on is arguably harder than ever because of the slop competition flooding markets

Awful. Like someone took a bottle of sprite zero, popped a few gummy worms in the bottle and left it in the sun for a month. There was no redeeming quality at all.

My only guess is that the Zero Sugar is there so that the one 9 yo whose palate wouldn't short-circuit can get it past a frazzled mom that's just hoping to make it through the day.

In this vein. I saw this abomination at a gas station and was compelled to try it, if for no other reason than to understand the depths of human depravity that would conjure it.
