Civilians on the Ukrainian side, as well as infrastructure. For the Russian side this really has been an operation and not a war until recently the same way that Americans don’t see most of what the US does abroad as a war either

The US has dictated the terms of the war for years, making support contingent on the war staying within Ukrainian borders and not interfering with any energy resources that will affect US interests in any way. The result has been a meat grinder on both sides of troops on both sides +

Don’t like to talk about this on here on a platform that lacks context and nuance but what is happening in Ukraine is the natural logical conclusion of allying with the US and its agents. This was not inevitable but it also isn’t surprising

A good read about the recent rise in popularity of Mahjong! Also a good addition to my working theory that more and more womens idea of community is tied to a culture of gross overconsumption more than anything else.

Palmar Ortmann, who lives in Greensboro, learned how to play in 2022 and launched The Mahj Pal in 2024. She has "15 sets and counting," and said part of the craze comes from all of the merchandising.
"The beautiful tiles, the beautiful racks," she said.
