40. Metroid: Samus Returns. The best of the bunch. Closer to a reimagining than a straight remake. Loved the atmosphere, the changes to the Metroid fights, the boss additions, the exploration. So much closer to what I love about Metroid. Haters will disagree, but Nintendo does it best.

39. AM2R. An improvement over the original in every way. Minor frustrations with the Omega Metroids, but not a huge gripe. Addition of Super Missles, Gravity Suit and Speed Booster were welcome. Man, I love Metroid.

38. Metroid II: Return of Samus. Major improvements over Metroid NES including health and missile refills and more narrow progression as Metroid was easy to get lost. Baffling omission of refill spots in the second and third to last areas. Lack of screen space and color options really hold it back.

37. Metroid NES. This game gets a lot of props for being the first for a lot of things. Truly a pioneer of game design and has a lot of cool things going for it that was almost immediately surpassed the following games in every way. This game was far too ambitious for the hardware it was on.

36. Orbitals. A solid cooperative experience oozing with style and some of best animated cutscenes I've seen included in a game. The ending felt like it should been the ending of act 1 and felt too wish washy to feel really impactful. Good game, wish there was more meat on the bones.

35. Metroid: Zero Mission. Decided to do 100% for a replay. Probably an easy 8.5-9 if not for some dogshit bossfights. At best the boss fights are rudimentary, at worst they're narrow and claustrophobic. Screen crunch and limited controls really hold this back. Still a wonderful experience.

34. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. A massive improvement over III and Vice City in every way. The gunplay is better (but still bad), the world is at least 4 times the size, there's more variety, more to do and a good likelihood you'll still have plenty to do after you roll credits.

Playing through San Andreas right now and honestly it's such a miniscule portion. I maxed out my stamina and strength early on between missions and only have to reup every like 4 hours. Plus you can let yourself starve and be weak and still play the game.

33. Big Walk. A one of a kind experience. I've never felt so in tune with others in a multiplayer game before. The core mechanic being communication makes for incredible emergent experiences. Certainly my GOTY up to this point and probably won't be surpassed. 10/10.

29. Grand Theft Auto 3. This is an interesting one. I would've love to have been able to play this when it launched in 2001. No fat, mostly gameplay with short cutscenes tied to missions. Pretty rudimentary by today's standards. Kind of felt like it just ended out of nowhere. Vice City next.

Going independent is incredibly hard and near impossible to just keep everybody on board. On top of that, people should be encouraged to stand and fight where they are. We cannot just constantly be in retreat and expect things to get better in the long run.
