Repugnant are back! (Although it’s not the same without Mary Goore’s vocals. Erik Danielsson is fab, but he’s not Mary…) I’d say it’s a bizarrely timely video, but it’s always timely. You’ll see what I mean. [Some gore/violence - and you’ll need to like death metal] youtu.be/6MerRhNL2DQ

I can’t be 100% positive I’m remembering it right, but I’m fairly sure the book includes the line “Quantum foam, makes me roam”. I loved the film. As a medievalist, it’s terrible, and as a writer (especially one who’s dabbled in time travel), it’s terrible. But apparently I don’t care.

My husband LOVES Krampus, so I’ve bought a surprise Krampus decoration I’m going to put up when I do all our usual Christmas ones in December, and see how long it takes him to notice. (It won’t take long: like I say, he’s obsessed) This stunning guy is by @matpringle.bsky.social. Isn’t he awesome?
A star shaped wooden decoration with an incredibly evil Krampus head painted on it. He is red with horns, long ears, an incredibly long pointed tongue and pointy teeth. He’s absolutely delightful

We had some police in the neighbourhood earlier, looking into a recent burglary - and by the amount I babbled when they came to the door, I think we've established that I would instantly crack under questioning. Wouldn't even need to torture me: you'd have trouble stopping me from chatting away.

It was a pretty awful time. But what can you do? Cats, man. Cost you a fortune and they still like to throw up where they know you won’t expect it.

It’s so awful how much it costs - and it’s not like you can avoid it. When our previous Little Cat was seriously ill, he had the best part of a week in the local animal hospital and the cost was appalling. We were lucky we could just about manage it, but it made something horrible even more so.

1) If you're considering submitting a story -- or are approached to create art for any publications that Must Read Magazines owns, including Asimov's -- walk away. Their current contracts are too predatory and do not suitably value you, your work or your rights. There will be other opportunities. 2/

I only managed to get halfway through this before I had to turn it off. I couldn’t bear to watch any more. It really is frustrating and, yes, frightening, and I wish more people in positions of power and influence pushed back with Jon Stewart’s anger and incisiveness

I’ve never smoked, but as a bystander I find fresh cigarette smoke much easier to tolerate than scented or flavoured vape stuff. (Although I draw the line at indoor smoking: my two periods as a student fell either side of the indoor smoking ban, and the difference after being in a pub was wild)

It’s weird. I don’t know if all the kids have decided vapes are a boomer thing, or it’s the crackdown on single-use vapes… but something’s definitely changed. And tbh I don’t particularly miss being engulfed in someone else’s cloud of candy floss vapour every time I walk down the street

Short term, for me it’s Otrivine sinus spray (for up to 7 days) plus Beconase spray and ibuprofen for the headache & inflammation- but be prepared for the odd nosebleed if you’re sensitive! See if that helps the head: there’s also definitely something nasty going round that’s achy/sinusy & coughy.

Lou Morgan @lmorgan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Are you in sinus headache territory? (I’ve had a couple of weeks of that so can absolutely sympathise if you are)

Also, there was a trailer for the new Christmas Carol adaptation and it strikes me that making Johnny Depp, *and Johnny Depp alone* the load-bearing spine of your marketing is, in this day and age, definitely A Choice

Lou Morgan @lmorgan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The weird thing about this story is that for the last couple of weeks, I’ve definitely noticed fewer vapes and more cigarettes around. Loads of students with cigarettes, and people outside smoking-smoking again rather than vaping.

I wasn’t sure what I’d make of Pressure (Andrew Scott predicts the weather for D-Day) but I really enjoyed it. The thing it reminded me of most - although it didn’t have the same kind of visual flair - was Conclave, and considering we know the ending of the story, it was surprisingly tense.

I spritz it all over my hair when it’s wet after a shower, run my fingers through it to kind of even it out and then leave it entirely to its own devices (I am very lazy with my hair; my stylist despairs). Obvs, YMMV depending on your specific hair, but it’s cheap & easy enough to just play with it.

I had this EXACT conversation with my hairdresser a while ago. She suggested a salt texturising spray and I’ve found that works - don’t get a fancy one, Toni & Guy’s is usually somewhere between £5 and £10. But the trick is to apply it while your hair is towel dry from washing, or it’ll go sticky.

For the millionth time, it’s so obvious that these should be banned. Like, overwhelmingly so. I think the tech giants have also realised the way the wind’s blowing - Meta seem to have pivoted hard to their necklace thing (which does exactly the same stuff but is less useful.)

I'm feeling attacked by @theonion.com but also 10/10.
"How a Book Becomes A Bestseller, The Onion demystifies the publishing process."

1. Proletariat becomes literate.
2. Author's creative inspiration flourishes upon marrying spouse with high-earning, unethical job.
3. Author chooses magical being to have sex with, then works backwards.
4. Author lands agent by running full speed into them while holding loose-leaf copy of manuscript.
5. Penguin Random House blackmailed into seven-figure book deal.
6. Editor removes typos and originality.
7. Famous author who hasn't read book reminded they got three glowing blurbs last year from authors who hadn't read theirs.
8. Publisher contacts Merriam-Webster to license all words it's using.
9. Marketing completely misrepresents plot, tone, and author.
10. Terrified independent bookstore owners gamble their razor-thin profit margin on this one.
11. PR firm hires thousands of people through Craigslist to performatively read book on subway.
12. Colman Domingo, contractually obligated to appear in all things, voices audiobook.
13. New York Times oracle nods.
14. Book written for sole purpose of becoming movie becomes movie.

I don’t think I’m the only person who will appreciate this
Triangular diagram labelled The Introvert
Hierarchy of Needs.

Top: Self-actualisation - A completely empty house. An arrow pointing to the house says “Nobody needs anything. Nobody is coming home for hours. Phone on silent.”

The next level is Esteem - Plans getting cancelled. An arrow here says “‘Sorry, we're going to have to rearrange.’ Oh no. That's terrible. I'm devastated.”

Next level: Belonging - One person you actually like. No group chat. No networking. No "let's go round and introduce ourselves." Just one person you can talk absolute shit with.

Fourth level: Safety - An escape route. Own car. End seat. Knowing exactly when the event finishes. A believable reason to leave early.

Bottom of pyramid: Physiological needs - Being left the fuck alone for a bit. Food. Water. Sleep. 45 minutes where nobody speaks to you.

You know when you pick up a book and wonder, purely based on its first reference point, whether you are absolutely its target reader (It’s @andrewoneillcomedy.bsky.social’s A History of Heavy Metal)
Extract from Andrew O’Neill’s book A History of Heavy Metal which reads as follows:

Before we dive headlong into the blackened realm of chaos that is the History of Heavy Metal I should probably first define what heavy metal is (and more importantly what it isn't). Metal's boundaries are scarred by the sort of constant war depicted in the Doctor Who story Genesis of the Daleks. Across the globe battles rage day and night about whether a particular band is metal or not, in gigs, rock bars, and most vehemently in the blasted wastelands of online comment sections.

God, some of the forums I was on were carnage. But I wonder if they somehow felt less… personal when things got nasty. And of course they weren’t on our phones and with us the whole time, which has got to be part of it.
