@johnmu.com @markwilliamscook.com can we officially dub llms.txt a zombie, bc that MF will not die. A reputable industry publication declared it necessary as part of an effective AI visibility strategy and now it's once again all the rage with leadership. Though a cats.txt zombie is more menacing.

I've seen an abnormal number of site:mydomain.com searches in GSC . They don't sound human at all , I'm assuming that they're AI. Interesting queries too. Would be interested to hear if anyone else is seeing them

Putting a link to this in my signature line. Then sending out to the folks who still beat the llms.txt drum. Will do my best not to cackle and poke fun, but I don't have high expectations. I'm a very petty person.

@markwilliamscook.com Per your LinkedIn article about raw network data, where is that found? How would I access that info? Thanks in advance!

Where can we find more info @lilyray.nyc ? Will you be writing something about it for your sub stack or an article?

What are your thoughts about comparison sans opinion, i.e., Y/N feature tables against competitor products? And for owned products when comparing multiple products, i.e., is product A, B, or C better for the user?

You need grounding content that lists all your 'not' titles. May need to be a living document 🙄 Could be fun to throw in a few HRHs just to see what happens.

Curious if you're looking at Google searches or chatbot searches. W/ no data to support my opinion, I can see Google queries not morphing into true prompts (yet) bc users don't necessarily see it as AI, just a search engine w/ AI features. But users associate chatbots w/ prompts so they use prompts

That's because .gov sites are no longer credible. It would be safer for all of us if most .gov sites were 403.

In my case, it was rendering fine on my personal machine with an up to date chrome browser but on my work machine which is not up to date (thanks, IT) it was not rendering. That was my main concern/question and yes, having the work done for you is an added benefit!

Faster and simpler method in Inspect tool, I used it this weekend. Go to the 'AI assistance' tab and type your question. 'Why isn't my favicon showing in some browsers?' Answers come back faster than raclette melts! You can also get super specific by highlighting individual tags.

You have 9 tries, Lily! Just remember when you're trying to claw your way to the top of the LLM (large litterbox model), cats.txt file isn't an official standard yet; right now it's just a scratchpad idea and the pawsabilities are unknown. 😼

Why LLMs.txt and not WebMCP then? That seems more logical. And .md files don't have the semantic layer found in HTML. It's like using a black & white map vs one in color, or a cookbook with no pictures. Ooooor like "cheese" wrapped in cellophane vs 6 month aged manchego.

Their crawlers are built for speed not browser simulation. Rendering at scale is expensive in time, compute, & infrastructure. We use JS injection for schema so technically it should be missed but our data says different. IMO, LLMs can render but don't because of cost. HTML is fast, easy, & cheap

I've asked 5 vendors of these tools how they measure/grade content & determine what optimizations are needed. Not one rep could answer on the spot; had to go back to the 'team' for the answer. They all came back with, 'it's a proprietary system'. I was hoping to at least hear QRG mentioned.

Do you see any issue if the original publish date, noted in copy & schema on the page, differs from the last mod date in the sitemap? We might change disclaimer language on a page which would change the last mod date but no content change to require a change to publish date.

Citation isn't the only goal. We used schema markup to correct a hallucination that had been showing for 5+ weeks. We reported to Google through the AIO listing, spoke to our Google rep, and I even publicly begged John for help. Nothing worked. But schema did! www.schemaapp.com/customer-sto...

Yes! I often include instructions in prompts not to use training data. There are many prompt how-to's but does the general public seek them out, let alone realize that they need to search differently? Likely not. For brands with checkered pasts but now making amends, this can be problematic.

After 3 months trying to correct an AIO hallucination we added schema, w/i 2 weeks the hallucination was resolved. It's super important for LLMs, and necessary for entities, also very important for LLM visibility. Thank you, SchemaApp! I've told Martha she needs to get on Bluesky 🙄

Even when factually true info is available there is potential for LLMs to ignore it. Instead of using info from a current business page, Gemini used a newspaper article that was factually true 25 years ago but not now. Resulting response said the business was permanently closed. That's not grounding

Interesting statement, "Once the AI trusts the site as “authoritative,” it may extend that trust to unvetted user content, giving malicious prompts in a comment section extra weight they wouldn’t have otherwise." Off topic, imagine what brand bashing UGC with extra weight can do to grounding.

lmlynch.bsky.social @lmlynch.bsky.social · 23/02/2026
Agreed and I provided alternative options to solve the issue they're having but it would require more work than slapping on a noindex. However, if there is evidence or potential that the pages are beneficial to AI search, that would provide enough muscle to push back and find a better solution.

@lilyray.nyc @glenngabe.bsky.social @britneymuller.bsky.social What are your thoughts on the importance of terms & conditions pages and agreements pages for YMYL products? There is a plan to use noindex but I think they could be beneficial for grounding. Thanks in advance.
