Been reading Randy Boygoda's new campus novel. It self-consciously resists tired tropes of the genre, but also reveals how hard it is to full subvert them. But maybe the best part of the novel is how it situates data science at the center of prestige laundering, propaganda, & outright fraud.

Interesting deep dive here. I'll add that for all the assumptions out there about MAHA, young men (left) are significantly more anti-vax than women (right), and more hostile to academic science. ymrp.substack.com -> static1.squarespace.com/static/68262... and static1.squarespace.com/static/68262...

The conflation of AI-critical with technophobic is tactical & infuriating. While accusing us of just knee-jerk hating tech, they’re enshittifying search engines, degrading digital archives, sundowning or enclosing popular tools, etc. We were all happily using that tech!

One of the more insidious ideas being incepted via right & center attacks on HigherEd is that college experiences are homogenous. The heterogeneity of the US system is one of its greatest strengths. Their goal of homogenization is served by an illusion of homogeny, just homogeny of the wrong sort.

Commissioning a transphobic bigot to write an article about a UK academic scandal to somehow indict US higher education (a completely different system about which this case has literally no bearing) for being too woke is peak New York Times brain. Not a great thing, just an unfortunate one.
