Fnished the small test warp on the refurb 4 shaft Pendleton floor loom! My beat & selvages are still inconsistent but I'm feeling comfortable at the loom & I'm ridiculously proud of this strip of handwoven web. If the weather cooperates we're planning to move her home on Tues! 🤞 #weaving #fiberarts

I'm officially in my floor loom weaving era!!!! Unspeakably proud of this wonky little bit of weaving. Now it's practice, practice, practice. But not until at least Monday. Resting time. #weaving #slowcloth #floorloom #fiberarts

Floor loom reassembly is complete! A couple of small things to dial in still but that will happen Sat when I go over to put the test warp on. Tomorrow is definitely a rest day! #weaving #floorloom

We got so much done today on the 4 shaft Pendleton floor loom with installing replacement parts and doing most of the major reassembly! Rest day tomorrow but we should be able to tackle the rest on Thursday. Initial function tests are looking good! #weaving #floorloom #fiberarts

The Pendleton loom came with 344 9.5" flat steel heddles. Too few to weave my kitchen towels. I decided to do a full replacement with inserted eye heddles (B-day present), keeping the old ones for backups after cleaning/oiling them. In a stroke of kismet the table loom takes...9.5" heddles! #weaving
Three hundred and forty four flat steel heddles that are nine and a half inches long are bundled onto zip ties and laid on top of some newspaper on Kelli's dye table.

On the day the Pendleton loom came to me my Wife happened to be heading out of town to visit her family for a few days. While there she got a chance to see her Aunt who in addition to being a fantastic human was a weaver for many years. Rae came back with a car full of goodies for me! #weaving

Update on the Pendleton loom refurbishment! It's progressing beautifully & today we started replenishing the extremely dry wood. Left is after cleaning but before conditioning. Right is after 2 coats of Howard's Feed & Wax. Replacement parts are on their way & then we can start reassembly! #weaving
A photo collage showing two images. The left photo is of a largely disassembled four shaft Pendleton X frame floor loom sitting on a blue tarp in a kitchen. The right photo shows some of the smaller wooden loom parts like the treadle assembly laid out on a piece of cardboard on a kitchen table. The wood on both photos is clean but very dry and light colored.A photo collage showing four images. The top two photos show a side and front angle of the largely disassembled four shaft Pendleton X frame floor loom from the first photo collage. Newspapers have been laid down between the tarp and the loom. The bottom two photos show some of the other loom parts that have been removed for cleaning and reconditioning laid out on a piece of cardboard and some newspaper on a kitchen table. The wood in all of the photos has gotten two coats of Howard's Feed and Wax and is considerably darker, warmer and healthier looking compared to the before state.

Yesterday a dear friend passed along to me a 4 shaft 30" weaving width Pendleton floor loom!! She needs some TLC, a couple of small repairs & some replacement parts but my Parents are helping me with the refurb and we've already made a ton of progress! #weaving #slowcloth #floorloom #fiberarts

Pickup stick & heddle rod are all set! Need to wind some weft & the weaving can begin! I haven't woven 3/1 twill since my first towel project in 2017. Luckily I still had all my string heddles tucked safely away but I remember them being a bit too long so I spent time shortening them all. #weaving

A pick up stick and a heddle rod with string heddles attached can be seen behind the rigid heddles. Two piles of string heddles lay on Kelli's desk. In the lefthand pile the loops are larger. The righthand pile contains fewer string heddles and the loops have been knotted a second time to reduce the size of the loop in the string. One string heddle from each pile sits separated in the middle to show the difference.

She's beamed! Threading the front heddle and tying on to the front will be a task for tomorrow if energy holds. 🤞 Yarn is a 55% hemp/ 45%organic cotton 8/2 that I hand dyed. Warp is 4.5 yards and I'm hoping to get 4 towels. #handdyed #weaving #fiberarts #slowcloth

A kitchen sink leak threw a wrench into things around here (ha) but today I finally started getting this warp on the loom. The back heddle is threaded and if I'm up for it tomorrow I will tie on to the back apron and beam the warp.
A closeup view of Kelli holding a warp cross in their right hand and preparing to begin the process of threading the silver grey and speckle dyed warp chain through a ten dent heddle on their Kromski Harp Forte rigid heddle loom. The back of the loom is facing Kelli and the camera. The bright yellow green handle of a threading hook is placed through the hole in the heddle where Kelli will begin threading from left to right. An angled view of the front if Kelli's Kromski Harp Forte rigid heddle loom. A series of hand dyed warp chains have been secured to the horizontal front support of the loom with ties and have also been wrapped around the support to keep the chains from dangling down too near the floor and sparking the curiousity of a certain tortie kitty. The ends of the warp chains have been threaded front to back in the first step of double heddle threading. The ends are secured with slip knots in one inch warp sections and flipped back over the top of the heddle.

Wove a bit on the Cricket while I was heating batches of rinse water today. Last 3 skeins of weft yarn for the Samhain themed towels are now rinsed and hanging to dry. #weaving
A fifteen inch Schacht Cricket rigid heddle loom sits on Kelli's desk. It has been warped in stripes of hand dyed six ply hemp yarn. The colors are a sandy gold, navy, a silvery driftwood grey and a medium blue. Weaving is in progress with the same yarns being used for the weft in color blocks. Short ends of weft stick out on the surface of the web from split joins. Two stick shuttles are laid across the warp. One is wound with the navy yarn and the other with the silvery driftwood grey.

Four warp chains are folded in fourths and laid out on plastic wrap on Kelli's newspaper covered dye table. The yarn is eight two hemp and organic cotton which has been hand painted in a gradient which appears as a warm purple that moves from black to medium and light values. A skein of eight two hemp and organic cotton yarn that has previously been low water immersion dyed a light cool grey is laid out on top of plastic wrap on Kelli's newspaper covered dye table. The skein has just had dry dye powder mixed with soda ash powder applied to it giving it a speckled appearance. The speckles appear to be a cool dark purple grey and a medium warm purple. My plan for the next towel warp requires handpainting some of the warp chains. The other part is being dyed in the skein. This is the 1st layer of dye for that skein. It will be overdyed later with speckles & then wound on the warping board. Yarn is 8/2 hemp/organic cotton. #handdyed #weaving

Blended up the rest of this targhee & hemp today. 2nd batch I dizzed off like the 1st one. 3rd & 4th I rolled off as batts which I'll strip & spin to keep the subtle gradient I laid out on the board. The dizzed batches have shorter color shift repeats. Kinda fractal spin adjacent...ish. #fiberarts

I have come up with a better metaphor than "you can't pour from an empty cup" for burnout. You can't boil an empty kettle. Pouring from an empty cup just just gets you nowhere. Trying to boil an empty kettle can ruin the kettle, the stove, and burn down your house if you keep trying it.
