The tragedy of ABA isn’t only what it does to autistic children. It’s what it teaches the adults around them. That distress is acceptable if it produces compliance. That looking normal matters more than feeling safe. That an autistic body belongs to everyone except the autistic person.

Our progressive thought-shapers need to stop treating autism and disability as rare and tragic exceptions, instead of commonplace, both now and throughout history. Parents-to-be need to be aware that autism is a possibility they can prepare for, not a tragedy. #autism #parenting #neurodiversity

Autistic humans often become experts in everyone else’s needs. Not because we’re naturally selfless. But because noticing everyone else was how we stayed safe.

Autism gets sold to us two ways Tragedy - a life of deficits and suffering Or superpower & gift, if you just reframe it right Both are missing the full picture It's a disability And the world isn't built for us, and that fucking hurts The grey space is where autistic humans actually live

People are always talking about the things we have today that our ancestors didn't, but nobody wants to look at the things our ancestors had that we've lost. Like community, and free time, and environmental sustainability, and a collective that cares whether we live or die

Autistic people process differently. That's autism. A processing difference. Numerous processing differences to be precise. - It's not rigidity - It's not defiance - It's not demand avoidance - It's not correcting others - It's not self-centeredness

Getting an autism diagnosis doesn’t fix anything. It gives you, however, a new context for everything that already happened. That’s not a small thing. It’s everything. Context is how you stop blaming yourself for things that were never your fault.

Being forced to speak on command is one of the quiet ways autistic people are tortured in school and at work. Being forced to say how everything is great and how pleased we are when we think the opposite - so we can stay safe - is even worse.

This is another form of internalised ableism. If the only autistic voices we elevate are the ones who can perform stability, coherence, and constant output then we are simply recreating the same ableist hierarchy we claim to resist.

Astrology is not “proving” itself through coincidence. It tracks recurring symbolic correlations across time. The problem is most people only study astrology through isolated personal anecdotes instead of historical cycles.

If we were a rational society, we would be doing EVERYTHING possible to make child creation and child raising easy, joyful, safe and rewarding. We don’t do that. We do the opposite. We make it costly, risky, draining and scary. Soooooo… yeah. Birth rates go down. We know how to do incentives

When people say “But my autistic child learned how to do this from ABA!” They probably mean their kid benefitted from 1:1 teaching. Autistic kids do NOT need ABA therapy to learn. But they may need individualized supports. Fight for funding those supports. thinkingautismguide.com/2025/03/when...

CN: Police killing Alex LaMorie, an autistic man, called the police for help. Instead, they shot him. At least two of the three officers who shot Alex went through autism training. It was not enough to stop them from killing him. By @autisticadvocacy.org: thinkingautismguide.com/2026/04/auti...

Things that help calm the nervous system, quickly: - Box breathing (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4, repeat) - Immerse your face in cold water (activates mammalian dive reflex) - Humming (stimulates vagus nerve) - Exercise (anything helps, outside even better) - Impeachment and removal

Here's your friendly reminder that autism is often completely missed until adulthood... and is sometimes never identified at all... because many autistic people internalize their autism so "well" that it literally looks like nothing. (I call it highly internalized autism)

There is no clean list of autistic traits that one can neatly separate from trauma. Autism and trauma often grow together. Because being autistic in an unsafe world is traumatic. So the real question isn’t - Is this autism or PTSD? It’s, what does my nervous system need now?”
