Another day, another #cat on my quilt project! Today it's Dilly's turn!

A gray and white cat is curled contentedly, sleeping on a colorful quilt lying on a table. A purple thimble and yellow thread await the quilter's return.

Eddie has found that my hand quilting project makes a lovely cat bed. #caturday

Eddie, an orange kitty, is resting on a brightly colored patchwork quilt in a quilting hoop. He's ever so content.

Me with my grandkitty, Venus. She is a very beautiful and affectionate #cat. I'm cat sitting while my son and his spouse are traveling.

A middle aged white woman with short gray hair is sitting on a sofa with an absolutely gorgeous fluffy gray tortoiseshell cat resting on her abdomen. Both entities are mightily pleased with the situation.

This morning I found Eddie #cat meatloafing in the case for my son's Steam Deck case. He mostly fits, so he sits.

An orange and white cat is neatly resting in a soft black gaming case on a wooden coffee table. He's wearing a red collar and his ears are very alert. In the background is family room clutter, a beige sofa, and a cat tree.

Early adventures in hand quilting... I am trying to learn using an "Aunt Becky" on my underneath hand. It helps me not jab myself and draw blood, and it really helps with the rocking stitch. So far, I like quilting at a table with no hoop best.

A photo of a brightly colored patchwork quilt in yellow, red, orange, green, and a bit of lavender. There are bold, black hand-quilted stitches. On top of the quilt rests a needle with black thread and a small folded piece of metal, which is a quilting tool called an "Aunt Becky."

I got lunch at this fancy toast restaurant (Toastique) with my son. This is the prettiest toast I've ever had! It has a ocado, watermelon radish slices, cherry tomatoes, and chili oil. Delicious!

Interesting! The one I found in my garden is white, while yours is yellow. I did a little reading, and it seems the females can change their color between white and yellow (the males, which are much smaller, cannot). Here's the one I found:

A tale of two predators: Scylla and Charibdis, garden-style. On my Obedient Plant today I saw this White-banded Crab Spider and, on the other side of the plant, an Asian mantis. A very dangerous situation for the bees! #spider #insect #bees #garden #nature

A large white crab spider waits on a bright magenta flowering plant for a pollinator to join them for breakfast. In the background is a house with white siding.

On the other side of the same flowers is a large, brown praying mantis, also waiting for breakfast to bumble along.

This Pink Oakworm Moth #caterpillar seems to have fallen out of the oak tree and onto the steps during the cooler temps last night. I moved it back to the soil at the base of the tree. #insect #moth #lepidoptera #nature

I think this is a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak, not in his breeding colors? Northern Virginia #birds

A bird feeding on sunflower seeds at a tray bird feeder. It is a large songbird, about the size of a cardinal. It has white feathers on its underbelly, pale rust/pink on its chest, olive on the top of its head and upper back, and black with white spots on its lower back, tail, and wings. It has a prominent, white spot on its upper wing at the shoulder. It has a cream colored eye streak. Its beak is wide and chunky, medium gray-brown in color. Its legs appear pale.

My son painted my nails for me! I love the way he graduated the blue to be darker at the ends of the nails, and I love the colorful dots.

I finished the memory wall quilt! This is made including swatches from my friend's dad's neckties, blended with fabrics from my scraps for color. I attached the folded butterflies with safety pins from the back, so she can wear one as a pin or give some to his grandchildren if she wants.

A square wall quilt. In the center is a collaged medallion of cutout flowers and birds from various colorful fabrics, with a large yellow circle to anchor them on a blue background. Surrounding the collage are folded fabric butterflies made from necktie fabric on one side and colorful fabric on the other side. There is a yellow sashing border, and a wider border of alternating blocks, half of necktie fabric swatches and the other half of colorful nine-patch blocks.

The memory quilt made of neckties is coming along. Each butterfly includes a fabric from a different tie. The flowers and birds are a collage from my scraps, and I'm thinking there will be a border made from more of the tie fabric. Maybe small log cabin blocks the also include colorful scraps.

A photo of a fabric collage in progress. The background is blue fabric, with a ring of folded fabric butterflies. In the center of the ring is a collage of layered flowers and birds cut from colorful print fabrics.

I'm experimenting with making little butterflies from scraps of fabric and old neckties that belonged to a friend's father. She loves butterflies and I'm going to try to make a small memorial wall quilt for her. #craft #sewing

Three fabric butterflies. Each is made of two pieces of fabric sewn together and folded up origami style. One is green and brown, one is maroon and purple, and the third is blue and lavender.

The back of the scrap quilt is almost done! It's pinned up on top of the top, which shows that it's not big enough. I'm going to add a black border to make it bigger. I can't decide if I like the top or back for this quilt better! Considered making two quilts out of them, but I will make them one.

A scrappy quilt of rainbow colors is pinned to a white sheet on a wall. Red scraps are in the top left and bottom right corners, purple makes up the diagonal from top right to bottom left, and the colors complete the spectrum in between. The blocks were cut up and recombined with a narrow black grid.

Aww! Eddie understands! He has been taking Prozac for years because of his anxiety/inappropriate pee problems because he would rather go out. It has helped him. He's also an older guy now, and that has also helped. I sure hope it gets easier for you! We gotta keep your fuzzy bunt safe!

The hummingbird moth caterpillars are getting so big on the coral honeysuckle! #caterpillar #nativeplants #invertebrates

A photo of a bright green caterpillar on the stem of a vine. The caterpillar is facing down and to the left. The lower part of its body along its length is a bright yellow-green, and there are small white spots with black centers in a row along the length of the yellowish band. The caterpillar has small black feet visible near its head and a sharp-looking black "tail" sticking up at the hind end.

This scrappy quilt top is done. I ended up deciding not to add black sashing. It's a little eye-boggling, but overall I'm happy with it. Now I need to figure out the backing. An opportunity to use up more scraps?

It's hard to decide. I'm experimenting with adding very narrow black lines, but in kind of a weird way. I think it will be interesting. Here's a preview. I'm not wrapping the black all the way around the squares. I think it will be interesting to see how it makes the sashing squares prominent...

Progress thus far on the scrappy colors quilt. I added wide sashing in complementary colorways. It does jumble it up a bit, but I kind of like the complexity. I'm considering taking the sashing rectangles and arranging them into a border instead. Opinions welcome.
