This morning I found Eddie #cat meatloafing in the case for my son's Steam Deck case. He mostly fits, so he sits.

Early adventures in hand quilting... I am trying to learn using an "Aunt Becky" on my underneath hand. It helps me not jab myself and draw blood, and it really helps with the rocking stitch. So far, I like quilting at a table with no hoop best.

I got lunch at this fancy toast restaurant (Toastique) with my son. This is the prettiest toast I've ever had! It has a ocado, watermelon radish slices, cherry tomatoes, and chili oil. Delicious!

A tale of two predators: Scylla and Charibdis, garden-style. On my Obedient Plant today I saw this White-banded Crab Spider and, on the other side of the plant, an Asian mantis. A very dangerous situation for the bees! #spider #insect #bees #garden #nature

This Pink Oakworm Moth #caterpillar seems to have fallen out of the oak tree and onto the steps during the cooler temps last night. I moved it back to the soil at the base of the tree. #insect #moth #lepidoptera #nature

I finished the memory wall quilt! This is made including swatches from my friend's dad's neckties, blended with fabrics from my scraps for color. I attached the folded butterflies with safety pins from the back, so she can wear one as a pin or give some to his grandchildren if she wants.

The memory quilt made of neckties is coming along. Each butterfly includes a fabric from a different tie. The flowers and birds are a collage from my scraps, and I'm thinking there will be a border made from more of the tie fabric. Maybe small log cabin blocks the also include colorful scraps.

This is such a perfect photo of this fierce little grassland predator! #birds I've been helping with a kestrel research project for the Smithsonian in Virginia, and it's wonderful to see one in action (my volunteer work involves watching nestbox videos and coding behavior into a database).

I'm experimenting with making little butterflies from scraps of fabric and old neckties that belonged to a friend's father. She loves butterflies and I'm going to try to make a small memorial wall quilt for her. #craft #sewing

The back of the scrap quilt is almost done! It's pinned up on top of the top, which shows that it's not big enough. I'm going to add a black border to make it bigger. I can't decide if I like the top or back for this quilt better! Considered making two quilts out of them, but I will make them one.

Red scraps are in the top left and bottom right corners, purple makes up the diagonal from top right to bottom left, and the colors complete the spectrum in between. The blocks were cut up and recombined with a narrow black grid.

This scrappy quilt top is done. I ended up deciding not to add black sashing. It's a little eye-boggling, but overall I'm happy with it. Now I need to figure out the backing. An opportunity to use up more scraps?

Progress thus far on the scrappy colors quilt. I added wide sashing in complementary colorways. It does jumble it up a bit, but I kind of like the complexity. I'm considering taking the sashing rectangles and arranging them into a border instead. Opinions welcome.

A quilt in progress is pinned to a design wall. It's composed of a 6 by 6 grid of scrappy blocks, each in a specific colorway on the ROYGBIV spectrum. Between the blocks are wide sashing strips made of scraps of complementary colors to the adjacent blocks.

My second Hawaiian -style wall quilt! The pattern is "Kanani O Amelika" ("The Beauty of America") from Poakalani Quilting. Size is 22 inches square.

Look at this amazing #insect! I believe it's a Black Giant Icneumanoid Wasp, Megarhyssa atrata. This is a female, and that long "tail" is her ovipositor. She can drill into wood with it! #invertebrate
