I consider this, Sleepwalkers, and Maximum Overdrive to be the cocaine trifecta.

Tonight is one of those rare moments where my will to attend a show has been completely deflated by my hatred of the drive necessary to reach it. Love you Fruit Bats, but you aren't worth dealing with the nonsense that is Hwy 49.

They should make 'spray on flesh' that you can coat them with at the beginning of the season, that then slowly decays and falls off over the course of the month. Bonus points if it attracts flies.

October 01, 2026 - Dean Johnson @ The Pearl This was basically a warm up for Hardly Strictly. Two full sets, just Dean, and an audience which contained about as many bodies as the total population of the city the event occurred in.

Just once I would like to get a promotional e-mail from (((folkYEAH!))) that has the basics right, like ticket links that point to the correct show or photo captions that refer to the correct artist.
A promotional e-mail from folkYEAH! promoting their upcoming Father John Misty/Damien Jurado bookings by providing the following text blurb. "Stephen Malkmus is a singer and guitarist in the groups Pavement, The Jicks, and the Hard Quartet and was a member of Silver Jews. A graduate of the University of Virginia and a tennis enthusiast, he lives in Chicago."

I really need to spend part of the weekend assembling the additional set of record shelves that I bought last year but never set up (because I wanted to paint the room first). The volume of 'unfiled' stacks has gone from four double crates to seven and a half unfiled crates.

Albums are doing this too. All it is doing is training me to skip the initial release so I don't wind up having to pay twice to experience the complete project.

Unfortunately it is our least pleasant venue, but I hope it works out for you and doesn't lead to writing off the city as a future tour stop.

Or worse, booking companies who take a merch cut, and then lie and say it was the venue.

I highly recommend catching the Dean Johnson set (Rooster Stage, 12:30pm, Sunday) if you can. He would have been my main reason for attending if I weren't catching him in Locke next week. (Same goes for Hiss later in the day, but I'm catching them in Healdsburg).

Pretty sure anyone within the org who might have had the power to do anything about it is collecting a severance check in about 28 hours.

Just received a flurry of emails announcing a new U2 album, and this is quite possibly the least amount of enthusiasm I have ever felt for anything music related. I can't even remember the last time I gave a crap about U2. 1993, maybe?

I'm amazed that they haven't bothered to fix that three year old Quake Live! menu bug. From what I recall, you either have to unplug your controller prior to launch and/or go adjust the properties on the quakelive.exe to override high DPI scaling.

Yeah, that worked out so well for him the last two times he did it.

It was a magic time to be a computer user. We learned to type by playing Infocom text adventures, and we learned to program by typing in lines of code from a magazine to generate a game (Laser Chess anyone?) or a Word Processor (SpeedScript) and eventually tinkering with them to see what happens.

For some reason I thought your company had closed down after Vox sold you to Valnet. Maybe that would have been a better outcome than being reduced to pushing stories like this one.

Lots of folks use software to ship stuff by weight, and completely ignore the bit that tells them they need to use a different rate table for things that aren't flat.

The promo merch for this one does not disappoint. @remedygames.com
Merch items that were manufactured to promote the upcoming release of "Control Resonant" by Remedy Entertainment. At the top left is a black ceramic coffee mug with the Federal Bureau of Control emblem across the front. At the bottom right is a metal tin containing breath mints. The label identifies them as "Contained Sample: Mold Mints" along with a case file number, barcode, and simulated mold around the edges of the tin.

That's the part that frustrates me the most. This is a game company who I trust to deliver a fun and engaging product. Particularly in this genre. And it sounds like they were doing just that, and then had to throw out their work in favor of this thing that actually shipped.

I no longer remember who recommended this film to me, but I remember being surprised. I was expecting a trash film, but it had a lot going on under the hood. I'm glad it went on to achieve cult status.

Also interesting, the New Pornographers album was apparently new/old stock, not a trade in. The gimmick for the release was discs 2, 3, and 4 are blank (CD-R), and then over the course of the promotional cycle, you could download the files and create them yourself. Now I just need to find them.

And much like the Matrix sequels, I'll still pay the price of admission, even if I know I won't return to it as much of the original. Mostly because I want to see what the company is going to do next.

That explains a lot. I expected the city to be a lot more sedate on a Tuesday. Instead, it was constant traffic, miserable hotel prices, and lots of strangers in ill fitting business suits milling around.

September 16, 2026 - Chelsea Wolfe @ Curran Theatre Amazing set in a lovely theater. Was surprised to hear Vex pop up in the set list. Was even more surprised at the unplanned encore performance of Culling.

September 16, 2026 - Jonathan Hultén @ Curran Theatre What a surprise this turned out to be. I knew him as a death metal guy. Not as ambient folk. I found his set to be utterly hypnotizing.

September 15, 2026 - Anthony Xavier Jackson @ The Independent Once he locked in (around the middle of his second number) I was on board with the material. I don't know that I'd ever want to listen to a recording of it, but I expect I'll circle back around and pick up some of his written work.

Interesting. Now that I've opened up the Pedro The Lion thing, it appears it is also a split. What I thought was identifying side "B" is in fact identifying the song "B" which David covers on one side and Lync performs on the other. Now I need to look into them and see why I'm not familiar.

I kept my Amoeba spend relatively light this time. Two things I've never seen before, one that I've seen but never heard, and one that just had too good of a price to pass up. Was also amused to see a couple friends in the store being recorded for a "What's In My Bag?" segment.
Top left is "Lync", a Pedro The Lion 7" (2024). Bottom left is Jason Molina/MJ Lenderman split 7" with a demo recording of "The Last 3 Human Words" on the front and a cover of "Just Be Simple" on the back (2025). Top right is "Bare Bodkin", a CD comp of work by Leslie Medford's bay area psych rock outfit The Ophelias (2022). (Not to be confused with the Spencer Peppet fronted indie rock outfit from Cincinnati.) Bottom right is a four disc box set of "Challengers" by The New Pornographers (2007).

I don't think there was anyone involved in this transaction who doesn't have an active Bluesky account.
My two Green Apple Books on the Park purchases. "Tell Me Yours, I'll Tell You Mine" by Kristina Ten and "Enshittification" by Cory Doctorow.

I wonder if anyone will ever do a deep dive into Mama Bird to figure out why this album never saw a physical release (and why the label has done nothing since).

Recent music mail. Both divisive releases, and in my opinion, both great. The Chelsea Wolfe 7" appears to be scented with something from the Heretic line. 'The Veil', if I had to guess. The 7" pack in with Nate's album has 'Chesnut' as the A-Side and 'Dust in the Wine' as the B-Side.
Recently received copies of the Chelsea Wolfe - 'The Dark / Death Is Not The End' 7" and the This Is Lorelei - 'The Singer in My Band' LP (Dinked International Edition)

I can't wait for Garriott to complete the trifecta by launching a Kickstarter to fund the project, overpromising a bunch of crap, and then eventually farting something that barely functions out the door three years after everyone stopped caring.

That is a good reminder that I haven't busted out that 'Glass Beach' album in a good long while. It is also a good reminder that I need to find out what the hell happened with 'Hello Mary'. Like, are they done-done or just on hiatus while individual folks pursue solo careers?

When the movie eventually arrives on video, they should offer to send a 'new and improved' DVD copy to anyone who complained, but have it start playing "Miss March" shortly after the opening credits.

At least it it happened in conjunction with a company who won't jerk them around, and will likely wind up making a video series about the analysis and eventual fix if they find a design flaw.
