Rest in power, Gloria ❤️‍🩹 Thank you for your fight for equality, reproductive freedom, and the belief that every person deserves dignity and a voice in their own life. Your work lives on in every parent, advocate, and kid who refuses to be told "no."

NEW: @lujan.senate.gov (D-N.M.) and @kaine.senate.gov (D-Va.) introduced the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Access Act, legislation to ensure older adults and people with disabilities have a real choice between receiving long-term care at home or in institutional settings.
Graphic headlined ‘Luján, Kaine Lead Legislation to Expand Access to Home and Community-Based Care for Older Adults and People with Disabilities,’ with a quote explaining that the HCBS Access Act would expand access to home and community-based care so people who want to stay home and receive care can do so, instead of waiting years on state waiver lists.

Peter, 7, is a dog-loving prankster who's obsessed with Bluey and Ms. Rachel. He also has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and needs 24/7 care. Mississippi Medicaid's home nursing keeps him healthy at home with his mom and brother, not in a hospital bed. Read his story: littlelobbyists.org/peters-story...
Lisa, wearing a Little Lobbyists t-shirt, poses with her sons Peter and Zachary, both also in Little Lobbyists shirts, at a birthday event with colorful balloon letters in the background. Peter sits in his wheelchair on the right. Text overlay reads "Peter's Story: A Dog-Loving Prankster Counting on Home Care — Mississippi Medicaid is what allows Peter, his brother Zachary, and his widowed mother Lisa to live happy, healthy lives."Lisa stands behind Zachary and Peter, who is in his wheelchair, all three wearing Chicago Cubs gear on a baseball field. A quote bubble reads: "After my husband's death in 2022, I am staying in Mississippi with my boys because it is the home we created together, the cost of living is lower, and life is slower here. It's especially important for us because living within an ambulance ride of a children's hospital is non-negotiable for us, and many cities with high-quality care and services are too expensive to live in."

At least 2,300 times a day, disabled students are restrained or secluded in segregated classrooms—denied their right to appropriate education. The KASS Act would require schools to provide supports, not isolation or restraint, to all children in schools receiving public funding!

A screenshot of a tweet from Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA)

As a liver doctor who has treated patients with hepatitis B for decades, this change to the vaccine schedule is a mistake. The hepatitis B vaccine is safe and effective. The birth dose is a recommendation, NOT a mandate.

Before the birth dose was recommended, 20,000 newborns a year were infected with hepatitis B. Now, it’s fewer than 20. Ending the recommendation for newborns makes it more likely the number of cases will begin to increase again. This makes America sicker.

Acting CDC Director O’Neill should not sign these new recommendations and instead retain the current, evidence-based approach.

The IDEA is marking its 50th anniversary amidst significant challenges. Students with disabilities face heightened risks as funding, services, and federal safeguards are threatened. Additionally, reductions in federal staff responsible for these essential programs exacerbate the situation.
