Y’all…I made a bookmark for readers and/or writers. 😆 Who wants one?
Spread out bookmarks showing both sides: on one side, it says “Ask me about my book!” with a cartoon brain sitting on a chair reading. On the other side, it says “DON’T ask me about my book!” with that same cartoon brain reading, now with a blanket over their head. Purple background with literarylaura.com on the bottom.

Hey #edibuddies! Here are some tips when working with neurodivergent writers: 1. Ask about communication preferences, including tone, frequency, and format. 2. Ask everyone about accommodations, regardless of diagnosis or disability. 3. Ask about intentions in the writing. 4. Be kind.

Developmental editors & fiction writing coaches help you see through the rounds of revisions, the frustration, the sticking points, and show you what’s already shining. Curious about working together? Let’s see if we’re a good fit! literarylaura.com
When do I need an editor? A friendly green monster asks against a backdrop of purple and blue swirls. “I love my story! Does it…work though?” asks a yellow concerned monster. “Why won’t my characters behave? Why has the plot gone sideways?” A frustrated blue monster with horns asks. “Does my pacing work? Does this story make sense? I can’t see it anymore!” a panicked fluffy pink monster asks. At the bottom, the answer: When you’re ready for professional and personalized advice. www.literarylaura.com

I just had a mindblowing conversation: I consider pain as that sensation you have when something IS or is ABOUT TO BE wrong with you. It’s a warning. Apparently, others also consider discomfort, soreness, and difficulty (say, in weightlifting) to also be pain. What do you think?

A tiny reminder when it is as hot as it is in much of the eastern US that water alone is not enough. On cycle rides they told us for every 2 bottles of water the third should be an electrolyte formula. If you're going somewhere that limits bottled water but has refill stations, bring the powders.

Q6 #Stetchat: I can’t edit to music with lyrics but I ALSO can’t work with lo-fi. There isn’t enough going on in the music (aka stimulation) so it registers as irritation. There’s a narrow window of non-lyrical and musically interesting but non-distracting music… so I usually just go without!

Q5: One of the funniest ones is when I’m “intentionally doing something else” (like watching a show) then I pull up the manuscript, out of curiosity, but *that’s not what I’m doing right now.* Then I keep looking over until I’m actually working on it… Aaand I got distracted into working.😁

Q3: Welcome to my Ted Talk. 😂 But ADHD means that small external things become big distractions and every day, there’s at least some (if not a lot of) struggle to get my focus up and working. Finding novelty, interest, or curiosity in what I’m doing is the best way to get my focus back.

If you’re a #neurodivergent #writer and you keep trying to follow expert advice but you aren’t reaching your goals, it doesn’t mean you’re bad, wrong, or broken. As with everything else in life (oh look, #accessibility matters!), most standard advice is meant for a narrow band of people.
