men in gaming don’t realize that no one is blameless when the culture is against women. i cried at SGF bc i was surrounded by male peers commenting on how i looked, not understanding that it made me feel just as alone as when the random guy on the street told me to lift my skirt

also i hate how simple and reductive this sounds but no women or trans people having jobs also means that it's considerably harder for female and trans freelancers to get any work at all because cis men are just less likely to accept or even reply to pitches from us, whether they admit it or not

We are tired of posting statements like these.

Today was an awful day at IGN. We were blindsided by the layoff of four union members and many more people across the organization who contributed years of their careers to making IGN an unparalleled voice in games and entertainment.

With each successive layoff, core parts of IGN’s operation continue to be stripped away. Today, IGN has decided to do away with many of our talented producers, editors, hosts, and other crucial roles, both within and out of the union. How many layoffs will occur before we no longer recognize the company we work for and the content that we make?

While we recognize the challenges the media industry is facing as a whole, it is difficult to understand how laying off valuable employees better positions us to meet those challenges. In turn, remaining employees bear additional workloads worsened by anxiety over the ever-looming threat of another layoff.

We are devastated, angry, and heartbroken for our colleagues.

my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.

Some people might not be aware, but it is entirely possible that without Dolly Parton we wouldn’t have had a COVID vaccine. She partly funded Moderna’s research and gave the largest individual contribution to make it all happen. Just gives you an idea of the kind of person she was.

Something that doesn't get said enough about making "content" (I hate that word) is: you often spend so much time sacrificed to it that you lose the energy, headspace, and drive to actually make your own art. Becoming a hostage to the algorithm is death for an artist.

Up until 6 months ago, I had almost 40k followers on Twitter and a fanbase around my work. I chose to sacrifice that over staying on a platform that was killing me. I might not be perfect today, but the improvement in my mental health is undeniable (and in my free time for actual creation, too).
