What large 4 is
A genuinely strong review/analysis model that verifies empirically instead of just reading. Its two best sessions impressed both judges independently: in a plan review it reproduced the denylist gap live, ran bypass probes, and refuted the plan's factual premise — a finding adopted verbatim into the implementation dispatch. In the source trace it executed the SDK's own serializer in the venv to prove off sends an explicit reasoning_effort: null on the wire, reconciling a contradictory source comment. Every checkable claim held up (5/6 ground truth, plus glm's independent spot-checks matched exactly). No hallucinated test passes, no secrets exposure, no destructive operations in the sampled sessions.
A competent implementor with procedural sloppiness. sol-high's sample of 10 implementation sessions: credible multi-surface results, careful preservation of concurrent agents' work, honest recovery from its own mistakes — but 10/10 violated the JSON-only contract, verification pipelines sometimes mask exit codes (| tail), logs get overwritten with fixed filenames, and one session reported "complete and verified" while missing a formatting gate.
The recurring weaknesses (both judges converge)
1. Shell fragility — the same zsh echo === failure repeated ~19 times in one session, never adapted; ~18% of that session's tool budget burned on recovery. Systematic, not accidental.
2. Verbosity tax — ~2x sol's turns per comparable task; overinvestigates small tasks, rechecks established success. Consistent with the latency tail we measured.
3. Calibration gaps under pressure — classified a test failure as a "classic flake" without isolation; shipped a solution whose flaw its own reasoning had already identified, without disclosing it until the user caught it; overclaims "verified" occasionally.
4. Contract drift — the JSON wrapping, everywhere, systematically.

They actually named it Le Chonk. It's...ok. It's just behind DSv4.1-flash. They're still doing RL on it so it's gonna be a few weeks until it's finished cooking. Feels more like a flash model, despite it's size, but still it's going from 9 for Large 3 to 38 for Large 4 on AA bench, so... good job :)
