When I was nine or ten, I asked for a Complete Works of Shakespeare for Christmas. I knew from the amused response of the adults that that was weird, but in a cute-precocious way that fed straight into my "gifted kid," people-pleasing, push that lab-rat lever for a dopamine hit brain.

I went trick-or-treating all the way through high school and my freshman year in college (up to the fancy neighborhood where the professors lived) then every year with "my kids" when I was teaching elementary school and AGAIN with my own children. Halloween is joy, and joy is for everyone. 🎃

Just finished a stint of Offworlders (which I do believe uses that system) and never felt that our GM was punishing us with the partial successes. Complications could almost always be resolved, usually through teamwork. ((I have other issues with the system, just not THAT one.))

Married to a Bulgarian, he says the first one. In a similar vein, my SIL has the "a" on the end of their last name to signify her lady status, but if you referenced the two of them in a sentence together, you'd use his (the male) version of the last name.
